I just joined a roman reenactment group and i am putting together some kit for an event in a couple of weeks. Ive researched various pompeii and maintz style gladii in the sub $ 300 category. Ive narrowed it down to 2 swords. 1. SOTW Deepeeka bone handled pompeii 2, this one : www.strongblade.com/prod/sba-gla ... orian.html ive heard that SOTW is a good company but is extremely slow on delivery (sometimes up to a year wait). However the Strongblade is a very nice and practical sword too. Has anyone ever purchased a sword from SB? How is their customer service and what are there shipping times like? would you reccomend this sword for reenactment?

My first two blade purchases were from Strongblade. Their customer service is excellent. Shipping times are average, UPS ground out of Connecticut.
I can't give a good or bad recommendation on that particular sword. The two I did buy, I've sold them both. Both had some fit/finish issues, and both had pretty narrow tangs.

It looks like it has an exposed guard plate instead of one that is sunk into the guard. Also the grip is the wrong shape. Reenactors feel very strongly about these things most of the time so I wouldn't personally go with this sword. Deepeeka have the cheapest historically accurate gladii around. I say historically accurate loosely, as they are good in terms of looks but not in handling.

help me out here guys- a little while back there was a post with a new (I think) group making gladius for reenacting. The products they had looked very good for the price, which was cheap, and they had an eye for historical correctness. I can't find the post with the link to the site... anyone?

Armamentaria have made a gladius and spatha for reenactors which are historically accurate, but I don't know of any others. www.armamentaria.com/store/inde ... cts_id=131. If you do find out I would definitely like to know!
