I haven't handled any of those, Xan, but I'd go with the KC teutonic. From my experience with their blades, it will be very sharp and ought to cut well from what I've heard. I'll probably get one at some point myself.

I'm a newby so I may be wrong, but from what I have read, heard, and know the Grosse Messer is a great cutter but it handles like a brick, I have not seen the one from Kris Cutlery, but I hear that that brand makes primarilly beaters(if your looking for a beater I heard they are very good). If you want something both tough and maneuverable, get the Lucerne. It will be more than adequate for light to medium cutting, and very agile to boot. Hope I helped.

KC comes sharper then gen 2 . The lucerne handles REALLY well for a sub 300 sword however. Almost ideal for a type XVa actually.

It might help a bit more if you posted a list of important things. You already listed crazy sharp. What are you looking at cutting with it? Prefer 1 or 2 handed? Types of blades you lean towards?

The lucerne is able to cut but is a very thrust biased sword. It has a close POB which helps tip control, but is not the best for cutting. For cutting you may want more weight further down the blade to drive it through your target, like the G2 Crusader. Sharpness: I have heard of G2s arriving from nearly sharp but not sharp enough to cut yourself, through to very sharp - which is how my G2s arrived. Reliable: Buy through AoV and have them thouroughly check your G2 before forwarding. Peened: check. Good steel: See reliable above. Having said that I like the Dordogne best. I think its the sexiest G2 available, and has a similar blade to the Lucerne. + it's Reinhardt designed and endorsed. Are they still around? Ah, but the Dordogne 'tis a bit whippy my friend. I recommend the customized Lucerne, as it is my favorite sword out of my whole collection, and a Black Prince would come in as a close second.

I agree with CN, KC comes sharper than Gen2, tho My Gen2s came sharp enough to cut well too. I have three of each brand, of the two I'd have to give the cutting edge to KC. Keep in mind I have none of the models mentioned here. Also something to be aware of is the shorter KC blades, ie: celtic, gladius, and the japanese styles, are DH. The longer euros, like the Teutonic, are TH. I ain't had much luck cutting newspaper with anything I have but that's probably just the way I'm preparing it or something.

If cutting albility is priority, then the teutonic wins hands down. Type XVa is a cut and THRUST sword vs a CUT and thrust sword like the type XII. The teutonic looks like a type XVII (sorta) which is a pretty good balance of the two. And the reason you never hear anything bad about KC is because nobody buys em . If you sell no items, nobody can complain. No seriously though, I barely ever see any KC stuff...which is a shame since they have some decent stuff.

Xan, I wouldn't say KC's are perfect. I bent my KC celtic on a bad cut, due to it being DH I believe. The teutonic is TH I think so that shouldn't be a problem. I don't think there are any perfect swords, at least in this price range. However KC's come really sharp and cut very well in my experience.
