I joined this forum yesterday and thought i'd ask about a sword i'm interested in getting. I am interested mostly in the katanas, but I do like a few others as well. Anyway I am wanting a functional blade, figure there's no sense in getting something just to look cool. And found a tactical that caught my eye: www.heavenlyswords.com/product.p ... ctid=27469 Not sure but from what i've read it seems its decent carbon steel, full tang... not really wanting to spend a ton of money on a first blade, but thought this might be a worthy buy for a first timer. I thank you for your input. I'm in the Southern US, and have plenty of actual weapons, but I love the ritual of the sword and the kata... Thanks for having me, looking forward to looking through the forum and reading.

Thx for the reply. Looks like i'll be getting that as my first. But overall for right now, I wouldn't want to spend more than $300 for a blade, but it'd have to be a functional blade that could hold up.

Just a note: I've heard Munetoshi handles crack, though I've only heard it happening to their katana with traditional wooden handles. I know nothing about this kind of handle, but be wary. As for the best you could do in your budget, from what I've heard, Ronin Dojo Pro Wakizashis (and katanas) are high quality and under $300. They're supposedly one of the best in sub-300 dollar swords. From what I've seen looking at this, though, it should hold up fine. No need to spend more on a sword that does the same thing as something cheaper.

The tac wak is a bit weak in the edge. Go for a Kris Cutlery waki or the Munetoshi Bonsai waki. And you should get a better deal at swordnarmory.com Munetoshi is their brand.
