Hello,
I joined the forum last month but had been reading & browsing videos a few weeks prior. There is such a sea of knowledge here & it can be a bit overwhelming at times but after some research I decided to purchase a Musashi ss783 Katana (similar to the bamboo that Paul reviewed) & Cheness Tenchi Ko Katana based on the reviews done by Paul & others. Decided to get a Katana from the sub $100 & the $200-$300 range to compare the differences. I'm realizing that appearance doesn't dictate the quality as much as what is put into the blade during forging & sharpening / polishing. The Musashi has a very nice machine polish, lighter differentialy hardened blade with real hamon. The Cheness has a lesser polish, through hardened heavier blade & etched hamon. I assume the Musashi is made for occasional light cutting. While the Cheness is designed for what would be considered heavier "battle" use? I have been reading on the higher end Katana also but being a newbie with no formal training, could not begin to be worthy of those amazing blades. Again, I hope to read more & learn mora about Katanas from all the experienced SBG members.

Congratulations on the new swords! You made two pretty good choices. The Musashi is a nice, ground-level katana and the Tenchi Ko-Katana is probably the most fun I've ever had with a sword(I'm only about 5'3"-5'4", tall, so the "Ko-Kat" is almost perfect for me, hahaha).

Thanks, I'm only 5' 5" myself & was one of the reasons I thought the Tenchi Ko Katana would be a good length to try.
