Check out youtube, they get fair reviews. Keep in mind, it's a machete, not a sword. I have a Kopis Machete, love it. ANd there are some 90.00 Civil War swords out there that you might like more....

I think I am more interested in the cutlass/naval/pirate style versus a civil war style sabre. Anything cool you can recommend for under $100.

their machetes are okay as long as you get them for around $10 any more and it's a waste because their quality can be so iffy. i have a panga and a friend of mine has the kopis, his came completely unsharpened.

I have two CS machetes (their old bowie and barong models) and they came sharp, well-made. However, one of my friend had one of their old 24'' blade latin machete and the temper wasn't great ; the blade took a bad bent and dent while chopping wood. Stoll, for less than 30$, I think CS machetes are great beaters.

I've hemmed and hawed over this for over a month now, and finally pulled the trigger on purchasing a Cold Steel Cutlass Machete. Looks and feels great, but have not used it to chop/cut/slice anything yet. This is my first "real" machete; can't wait to take it camping/hiking.
Love the look of the CS bowie machete, but alas they are now impossible to find. I do have my sights on a Ka-Bar Backer BK9....

CS will sell a 12'' blade version of their old bowie machete, it's in their 2013 catalog, you will have your chance to get one

This cutlass machete actually weighs more than some cutlasses. I know its grind is that of a machete but it is thicker than most machete. From watching the youtube videos I am inclined to think it is more cutlass than machete. I would love to hear the views of those that own both a light cutlass and this cutlass machete, how does this compare in handling to a cutlass.

I have not handled a proper cutlass, but the CS cutlass machete *does* feel pretty heave, which seems right for a machete (I mean, I do want to to be able to cut through branches and whatnot). It is quite longer than most machetes I have used in the past as well. All in all, I am extremely happy with it, and would recommend it to anyone looking for 3ither a machete or a (non-historical) functional cutlass sabre.
I did also pull the trigger on purchasing the Ka-Bar Becker BK9. And man, is it awesome! Does "BK" stand for "big knife"? Cause seriously, this thing is like a machete in itself!!

I really like the look of that Condor machete John linked to. Has anybody handled one? Is it a good machete?
