So on top of the cost of the sword there's $54 in tax and then another whopping $150 in shipping to the UK. Does anyone else think this is a little excessive? Ronin Katanas only cost $45 to ship international, and Kult of Athena is only $70, both with no mention of tax (correct me if I'm wrong).
Is there a way I can dodge the fees? For example say I had an accomplice in the states who buys the sword for me and then ships it to me via some cheaper courier, would that work out better?

I paid a similar amount in postage and was a bit dismayed. The tax is the UK government and has nothing to do with the company. Its based on the value and type of item etc. I've had some items sent private with no invoice etc and they have no idea how much its worth and i paid no tax. I have also been forced to show customs my paypal transaction so they could tax me. If the seller is willing to tick a box saying the value is under $100 you can avoid tax but if they lose it and you are insured you won't get the original amount.
I'm not an expert and don't work in customs this is just my limited practical experience of importing from the USA.

Can't you buy the DSA from Kult of Athena, they stock most of them with reasonable postage? It will still cost quite a bit to clear customs, I got charged £80 just to get a kukri through. I guess you could buy from southern swords, they are in the UK and stock quite a few Darksword armoury swords, though I wouldn't really reccomend them as they obviously don't know the difference between a dollar and pound sign!

I was hoping to pick up a viking sword from DSA's sale section for 200usd so KoA isnt really an option in this instance. I know what you mean about Southernswords! Even if i brought it directly from DSA shipping and all it'd still come up to £270 while southernswords stock the same blade at £325!
Still though the student in me just wouldnt feel right paying for something where half the cost is in shipping.
