Hey fellas.......I've been looking at the 'Dark Drake' armor set that KOA is selling. This line of armor looks pretty cool for ren-fest wear and such. I was just wondering if anyone has this, or any of the other armor(Dark Warrior,Warrior,King) from this lineup? If so , what's your opinion of it? Thanx..........Pict

I believe it's from an European company who does LARP type armor. It's 18 gauge, IIRC. Works perfectly for LARP, but I would really not recommend it for anything else like steel sparring. It's fine costume wear, of course... Odingaard had one of those pieces once, I believe.

18 Gg should be fine for SCA or steel so long as you have proper padding (like a good gambeson) under it. That is comparable to historic armour thickness. I wear 18 Gg plates brigandine for SCA and it works great for bludgeoning impacts..

Thank you, Elheru.....That's the main thing I was interested in finding out. I have SCA/WMA armor, but was looking into this for fest-wear. European made? Any idea the company? Website? I just thought it was cool looking fantasy armor and liked it having tassets separate from the cuirasse. Thanx..........Pict

I know Adrian Empire would not allow 18 gauge unless it was stainless. Just saying, every group has its own rule book. FOLLOW IT TO THE T!

I don't want to start a sh**-storm about anything........I've already done that in another thread. But you are right, StevenJ. Armor was, and still is, made to protect the wearer, and the rules of modern armored combat should be adhered to. I just wanna know who makes THIS particular brand, and if it's worth a crap. Thanks!..........pict

Greater safety precautions for a live-steel combat group are understandable.
