I thought I had posted on this, but I guess not.
Thinking of getting a good bastard for cutting.
Does anyone have the bastard by Ancient Edge? What do you think of it?

A link to the sword in question? As far as I know, ancient edge doesnt make anything, they just rebrand modles and resell.

Here's a review of it on Myarmoury. www.myarmoury.com/review_ae_bast14c.htmlFrankly, I don't like it. The original it's based on is a type XIV, but it's a single-hander, as were all the others of that type. Also, it apparently has very little blade presence. This probably isn't the best thing in a cutting sword. Personally, I like the look of the Windlass Schloss Erbach sword much better. It's had some very promising remarks made about it at the various forums. It is also a very good replica of the original, in looks anyways. www.museumreplicas.com/museumreplicas/detail.aspx?ID=1482

ahh, maybe they make a few. I didn't know.
That thing is ugly as sin. Why did they brand it as a bastard sword?
And idk about the windlass, DI. For that price I would likely try to get a Gen2 or cheapo Atrim off ebay/classifieds.

i like the ancient edge one except that pommel. I didnt read the full review but it looks like they used the Hanwei Bastard cross. Very cool sword, ive been lookin for a functional sword similar to boromirs, (LOTR), XIV blade, style 11 cross, T5, pommel. id probably take the plunge on this one.

As far as anyone seems to know, the sword never made it into production. The one Patrick tested was a pre-production or prototype version. THere's also footage of James Williams cutting with one, which could very well be from the same proto batch. I actually like the sword. It just never seemed to get off the ground.

Unfortunately, that seems to have been a non-functioning site for quite some time. I tried ordering that sword in March or April of 2007 from that page. The site didn't work then. It will let you add items to the cart, but then the process dies. Or at least that's how it worked last year.

Well, I can afford an Atrim, just thought it would be fun.

No reply yet from AE, that's a bad sign.

I am going with a DN1532, a rough equivalent, and probably a better blade overall (but out of our price range). ;D
