Hi everyone nice to be finally posting here after so long of reading reviews and comments but never posting.
Okay so my two current swords, that is 'battle ready' as Koa would classify them, are an old Windlass Claymore (which must be really old as I've only ever seen one other person that still has one or knows of it) it was on a site here in the uk in their equivalent of dent and scratch of Koa for only about £100/110 - $160/170 and i also have a Tinker Pearce bastard sword sharp with no fuller.
So i'm looking at getting my next sword and have decided to get something in between these two swords. So hand and half's and long swords seem to be what i'm looking for, i'm looking for something somewhere around 44''- 47'', i feel this will offer something between the two swords and unique to them both, i'd say my budget is around £200 - $315 but this would include shipping as well. Currently been looking at the Hanwei Rhinelander and so far its the likeliest choice when i have the cash spare (few months time hopefully) and when Swords of might get new stock,if they do, as its the cheapest place to get I've seen.
Thank you all for any help.

Hi. You live in Europe? What do you think of this one: www.stahlwarenhaus-hebsacker.de/ ... heide.html Though Windlass, it is a very well made sword, not ,,whippy'' at all. One of Windlass Golden Oldies. Nice pommel and guard too, with double rings. Hanwei is in my opinion too overpriced, though the Rhinelander came to my mind as first also. Has a one ring guard though. Cheers, Ulahn.

Wow thank you very much, that has certainly given me something to think about, did a quick search on the sword and see you yourself own one, just wondering is the blade wide ? Just my only complaint with my TP bastard sword was i felt the blade wasn't wide enough and just didn't feel any blade presence on it, more in the hands. Also given the choice between the windlass and the Rhinelander if you had the money given to you now which would you choose ?
Thank you.

Both are 4,7mm wide at the guard. I would go for the Windlass. It is a real bastard sword, with very well done detailing and in my opinion a good representation of the eara. One handed at first it feels a little heavy, but in time it gets a lot better. Two handed, it sings right from the start. Good blade presence. The Hanwei is very sober and again, in my opinion, looks too machine made, a little dead if you will. As a one hander it is rather heavy and for two handed use it is a little on the short side. Not much blade presence either, though it is a nice sword. I bought mine for Eu200 and for such a price it is good, not enthousiastic about it though. The Eu359 they want for it now prices it right out of the market, I think. For me, I buy Hanwei for the old prices. I will not pay these inflated new prices, basta. So. I vote for the Windlass. For EU199,99 you will have a very well made and very nice looking sword, that handles and looks way above the price paid. For me it is more of a buddy, much more life in it, than the Hanwei. And by the way: the people of this site are oke, good packing also and speedy delivery. And here ends my sermon. Cheers, Ulahn.

Now my advice is just a personal opinion and I'm more focused on Japanese swords. I'm in the same boat with Ulahn. I cannot recommend Hanwei European swords for the usual current prices, but if you can get a deal they are ok swords. I've owned 3 European swords by Hanwei and all have left bit average impression. Like I said they are ok swords in overall, just that all 3 of them have had a bit rough sharpening on the blade. And with proper sharpening they would be fairly good swords. If intrested in some of the H/T line blades, this UK-based retailer can offer the best price in Europe on them (although as site says they might come with small blemishes): www.medieval-weaponry.co.uk/acat ... promo.html (I've ordered through their sister site and it's a good company). For example they have H/T Longsword for 135£ and at that price it's fairly good buy. I recently acquired one through fellow SBG member and in my opinion that 150-200€ price range is what I would think fair to this sword. At their current usual retail price there are just lot better deals out there in my opinion. And I also happen to own the Windlass 1 1/2 that Ulahn posted earlier. I got a great deal for used one when I got it for c.100€ and the previous owner had sharpened it. For the price I paid for this it's an awesome sword, and in my personal opinion it would be a good buy for 200€, I would take it much rather than a Hanwei Euro. As you asked for blade width, mine is 4,9cm at guard and 3,2cm near tip. Like I said this is just my opinion but I'd rather go for Windlass over Hanwei in your price range. I can't say anything about their other hand and halfs, but granted how good the one I have is, I'll surely might buy a Windlass in the future too, with Hanwei I'll guess I'll avoid their Euros, at least for a good while.

Thanks for the input, yea that's the site i bought my T/P bastard sword from as well. I like the long sword and at that price its a great buy but i'm really liking the windlass you guys have mentioned, seems to fit my criteria more than the longsword and therefore worth the extra money. Thank you guys both very much for your input would never likely have found the sword by myself. +karma to you both.
