I would like anyone who has handled both of these (or just has strong impressions of one or the other) to chime in on this. I am looking for a lightweight sword, with a blade not much longer than 30" I have been looking at both the Darksword knightly squire and the Gen 2 Norman Medieval. There is a review of the DSA Squire, but I cannot find any info on the Gen2 Norman ( this is NOT the 12th cent. Norman reviewed on this site. That sword is longer and heavier.)
I really like the Blue wire wrap on the Squire, but looks are not mu primary concern ( although it sure helps!) Function, then looks are priority.
Historical realism is not super critical
The Gen2 is quite a bit more affordable, and comes sharpened The Darksword is prettier, and has a great reputation. I can save more if it is worth it.
What do you think?

The DSA Squire is very blade heavy. I would suggest the DSA Knightly, as it is a fine handling blade that is very durable. As for the Gen 2 Norman, you get a lively blade that is much more agile, but not made for heavier cutting. It depends on what you want to do with your sword.

huh...thats interesting to hear about the DSA Squire. I haven't heard of many people being interested in it but i liked it from the start. even being blade heavy id still consider buying it....it is a good lookin sword after all.

I been lookin at that one also, Jak, tho the color put me off. If the knightly is better handling, it gets the edge from me.
MD, I have no experience with either sword.

Most of the pictures you see of DSA from DSA make the leather look blue, but it's really black.

Ah well, in any case on closer inspection, I like the look of the knight better, tho it weighs a touch more.

Quote from arms of valor. Whaddupwiddat? Haha! I'll look into that. It may have been written before the product arrived. Edit: DSA quotes that too. Well, let me restate that of the DSA blades I have personally handled, the pictures I seen before hand made the leather look a different color than the actual product. Take for example the Gothic. I personally haven't handled the squire sword, but Jason did and told me that he really didn't like it (blade heavy). Sorry about the confusion. I guess I don't like the color, either!

really?, I kinda liked the blue. I wish someone near me carried DSA or Gen2's, im really interested in inspecting and handling them in person. I've never even seen one.

Hey there, I just recently got the DSA squire and I have to say that if your looking for a lighter one handed sword this one isn't for you. Its weight is posted at 2lbs 8oz but its much closer to 3lbs and is very blade heavy. Its unbeatable as far as durability goes but if you're looking for any kind of finess in a blade then go with a lighter sword like the DSA knightly sword. But if you are looking for some heavy cutting or blade on blade durability then the squire is a good choice. Oh and as for the blue handle it is a very dark deep blue not nearly as bright as most pictures make it look. Hope this helps you.
