Yo whats up, I just joined these forums yesterday. I have been collecting swords for about a month now and don't have much of a collection yet. I stumbled upon this site while watching test cut vids on youtube. I mainly collect and practice with shorter swords like shotos or wakizashis. A matter a fact I just bought the Hanwei Practical Wakizashi, so please tell me if its a half decent sword or not. Other then that its pretty cool to be here and nice to meet all of you...

Hey there, welcome! I'm not trying to be rude, but introductions are best made in the thread in cafe, at the bottom.
About the wakizashi, hanwei is a reputable company, for sure, and although I know less than nothing about katanas and eastern weapons in general (I'm more of a western fanatic), I'm pretty sure you bought something that's at least halfway decent, instead of some cheap wallhanger. Sorry if I'm not of much use, again, my interest is in western blades. Hope someone else will echo my comments (or refute them!)

I'll second that welcome. I, too, am mainly a western sword guy, but I do know that the Hanwei/Paul Chen Practical Japanese style swords are pretty well respected in the sword community in general. They supposedly pack a fair amount of bang for the buck.

Welcome to the boards! My tilt is towards the Japanese and Filipino weaponry, and I have some personal experience with the older Paul Chen PPK, having one myself and using a number of others. The wakizashi itself is, from what I hear, to be quite an exceptional piece of work. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten a chance to play with that particular one. Rest assured though, you should have a very nice blade in your hands.

Hiya, and welcome to the board. I happen to own both the Practical Katana as well as the Wakasashi and the Tanto for the complete set. I've used mine to cut the Tatami mats, plastic milk jugs and assorted sundry items, and it performs flawlessly. In my humble opinion, it can not be beat for an entry level sword, and for all of the Hanwei items I've purchased to date it holds up to the standards that I've come to expect from this company.

Dxkhaoz ;D it seems kismet has brought you to our halls As to the Practical wak, I've not had the privilege of holding one, but did have a Practical katana, which incidentally was my wife's favourite over the Wind & Thunder and Last Legend Tsunami, there's something about it's simplistic lines and concept that is very appealing. You will regularly see wanted ads for the PK, so that tells you something atvvb Bill
