Hey Ealdor: Nice to see another aussie around and about, my advice is to not bother with the ranger or the verneuil and go straight for the gothic two hander, everyone has posted rave reviews on it and it is a very sexy sword and will do what you need it to and is both better balanced and better strength wise than the verneuil and better balance wise than the ranger. In the end it is your choice just food for thought, also if you only buy one sword you can save the money and buy the kriegschwert later.
Hope it helps mate

Thanks for the advice Bloodwraith I'll keep that in mind. Considering I'm married with an 18month old the money takes awhile to save so maybe I'll wait till the Valiant Armory swords come out then. Want my money to be well spent.
Cheers

I doubt highly it's better balanced than the verneuil. That thing is a sleek sword.
BW, while your recommendations are of merit, I can't help but think that they are detrimental to the lower level market to some degree. Just thinking out loud here - If everyone only bought the one or two swords that everyone has because they were afraid of getting a bad sword, then no one would have any experience outside of their comfort zone.
Personally I say go with the verneuil, you'll be getting a sword that you can pioneer. I dobut it will be of poor quality, my only concerns are the blade durability compared to DS, which is undoubtedly stronger (But windlass does a nice job in the department, so it wouldn't be anything worthwhile to fret over).
What it all comes down to in this market, honestly, is looks - do like the looks of one sword over the other? There will be differences, but each sword in this price range has strengths AND weaknesses and DS is no exception. You like the looks of the verneiul more than anything else, by all means you've got my thumbs up.

Hey, Just wondering what you plan on doing with the sword you're planning to buy? Is it going to be a target cutter or a blade on blade or just something to have fun with? I have a windlass and a DSA sword. They both have their strengths and weaknesses but for their purposes I love them both. My windlass is light and fast and just fun to handle while my DSA is heavier and tougher as would be expected. Just some food for thought. My opinion would be to go with the windlass. That's a sweet looking sword and I'll bet it handles nicely. Oh and I know what you mean about the money coming slow. I'm married and with a baby on the way so money for swords isn't quite top priority anymore

I would add my support for the Verneuil too. The Kriegschwert will be a great sword, when it comes to market. But from the looks of things, that will likely be a while.

Basically it'll just be something to have some fun with. Maybe some pool noodles/plastic bottles but not blade on blade...yet. Even though the Kriegschwert won't be on sale for some time, time is what I have alot of so maybe I'll wait and see what happens with that line of swords. If I get anxious though I think I'll head for the Verneuil or the G2 Lucerne. A little more debate on that won't hurt

Yeah if its just going to be for light target cutting a DSA sword is kinda overkill.
