Hello all,
After 2 weeks of playing around with the very enjoyable h/t longsword I decided to finally take it apart. I unscrewed the little hex nut at the top and that's pretty much as far as I got because the pommel won't come out. I've tugged and twisted but it's definitely not giving way. Have I missed a step somewhere?!

don't twist it- it's keyed to the tang so can't rotate around. I would take a piece of wood and cut it so it can be pressed up to the tang from the handle side and knocked with a hammer to loosen and push the pommel down. I'll draw a quickie paint program pic to explain better.
Did you get this second hand?
edit/add: found the youtube video explaining the tool I was going to draw. Make something like this that will fit around your handle and have the bottom end butt up to the edges of the pommel- then try tapping the pommel off. Same idea as in the video except at the handle for the pommel, instead of at the blade for the tsuba

I have a similar issue with mine too. I have to get a wood block and place the tip on it facing down. I then take a wood block and smack the guard with the wood block and it dislodges the pommel. Also when I put it back on I have to do the same thing kinda. I have to put the hex nut in and tap it with the wood block so it touches the thread, then I'm able to rethread it. The HT that I have is a little tight with the pommel.

thanks got it out in the end just wrapped the guard with a sock and tapped it out with a hammer. Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to break anything tapping it out like that

ah, good. I guess I had assumed you'd already tried that The one thing about strinking from the guard is if there is truly a jam somewhere you could end up bending the guard or damaging the grip.
