Anybody know what this is supposed to be? Is it even a Windlass? Some stats: Damast steel, handforged. Long : 98 cm Blade : 74 cm Grip : 22 cm Blade width at guard : 3,5 cm Weight : 1,1 kg This is my first post with images, so I have some trouble with getting them bigger. I hope you can see enough though. Cheers, Ulahn.

I've had every MRL catalog since it started and this doesn't look familiar.
Look for any of these markings on the blade or on the face of the guard: Earlier Windlass swords bore a crossed Kukri stamp. MRL stamped MRL on anything they worked on in house (they sometimes used Del Tin or Windlass blades and mounted their own furniture). Later they went to a Dream Warrior stamp for fantasy pieces and eventually, after the the Windlass takeover of MRL, the hologram decal they currently use.

Hi demonskul. Thank for the info. Well it seems safe to argue this is not a Windlass than. This webshop does not do China stuff either. Some Hanwei is as far as they go. In the mean time I found a picture of a machete made for the Am.-Spanish war. this has a horsehead pommel too, but very different blade. Must be some fantasy sabre than, though the whole look of the thing does not say Eastern Europe to me. Most of those are way sloppier. This is another picture of an animal head pommel sword: 1620AD Dutch Falchion with East India Company connections: Does look like it a little.

A very interesting piece. Do you own it or is it just a piece you saw on the Internet and want provenance for?
It almost reminds me of what's called a 'Yang Saber', used in some styles of taji-dao. I know Hanwei has made a horse-headed early saber. Perhaps bounce an email off them and see what they say? The locket of the scabbard does look Chinese style, like what you would see on a jian scabbard, so you might start with Chinese manufacturers...

Never seen that sword before, but it'd go great with a Mongol kit.

Hi all. To Elher u Aran: No,it comes from a webstore I frequent. Every once in a while they sneak in a little surprise. You were close with Hanwei though.
To Mark Kaden Ridgeway: You hit the Jackpot. That's the sabre allright. So my webstore does fancy a Chinese product once in a while, well, well.
According to website where I found it ,,the tang goes through the hilt'', which sounds to me like it is not peened. They always show a picture when the pommel is peened. No picture this time. There are no mekugi to be seen either, so, screw on pommel? Lots of glue than, it being Chinese No stats on the steel other than ,,Damask'' too. No temper stats, nothing. But, like you all, I like it also. I think the overall design is not bad at all. It has Life into it.
Thank you all for you comments! Cheers, Ulahn.

That looks like one of the many tactical katana/wakizashi clones. Might as well just buy a tac-kat or tac-wak from Munetoshi or Hanwei as offered on SwordnArmory or KoA. Actually, I think it's this www.trueswords.com/bushido-samur ... -2095.html In which case, the store is lying cause TS says it's 440 stainless, and I'd trust TS more than this shady-looking site. Alternatively, TS could be selling a knockoff of the link you posted, which is why TS price is a lot cheaper (doubt it though, since it wasn't a brand name item in the first place and looks virtually identical). At any rate, I would rather buy a tac-kat.
