Gday all I have a penchant for 2 handed swords and for tactical style blades and I was wondering has anyone else ever thought of combining the 2 and making a tactical 2 hander? I know it wouldn't be terribly practical really, but I reckon it would look pretty cool so if anyone agrees/disagrees or has any pictures/ideas on what they think one should be jump on board! I personally am thinking along the lines of a VA Zombie Slayer on steroids with slightly wider cross guards and secondary guards further down the blade with maybe a half serrated edge on one side with maybe a 45" blade and a 20" handle so it has a bit more handle than perhaps usual but that might make it a bit easier to half sword or use more like a short spear, what do you all reckon?

Yeah I've seen their products online and watched that video pretty impressive really I'm kinda in love with their Hellion and Vakra blades and I really like the Deuce and the Spit but I'd have to start selling my ass on the street to ever afford them all maybe I'll make a present of the Hellion for myself next tax refund?

Okay lets do this. there are only two companies that make anything even remotely tactical ZT and MBB. since you already know about ZT i'll tell you about millerbrosblades. They essentially do what looks like tool grade tactical style swords. They don't seem to be worth their $ considering they have yet to do a true destruction test were they actually break the blade. They are however open to custom work but that'll run you even more, however they do outright refuse any handle material customization.
In short, you seem scrapped for cash, just buy a condor wood axe, it goes through people and trees and you can buy 10 of them for the price of a supposedly tactical greatsword.

Ok mate to put it lightly, you have annoyed me now Firstly, you obviously didn't read or didn't understand my original post.Secondly, you have shown a decidedly sarcastic attitude towards my attempt to illicit some more response from the usually curious and imaginative people of this forum. I reread my original post twice and nowhere did I ask for a manufacturer or even a custom sword maker to supply me with my idea of a tactical 2 hander, all I was hoping for was to peak the interest of aforementioned forum members and maybe bounce ideas and opinions off each other. And like I also said I never thought the idea would be terribly practical either, but then I never thought peanut butter and jam would be nice until I tried it! FYI,I do know of miller Bros blades, they remind me a ot of John Gages Marauder tactical swords, which are also fairly overpriced IMO.And I have no intention to have one custom made never did, just wanted to kick the idea around! The only part of the MO you got right is my asking for opinions;you have done this now, thank you.

I thought the idea would be interesting. I wanted to build something that had the shape of a shorter celtic leafblade, thicker and tougher, and then put a long handle on it. I wanted to see if there was any value in 2 handed power and manuverability in a sort of close quarter sword. Kind of like a Deuce only double edged. I'll put pictures up when I'm ready to be heckeled.

The idea for a tactical 2-hander is kind of appealing. But to take advantage of a 2-hand grip, the blade really needs to be either 1) built with standard "medieval sword" concepts of distal taper and mass distribution with a blade at least 34" in length, or 2) drastically overbuilt with a shorter blade to offset the slow rotation speed of two handers with short blades. I have seen several instances of taking a nice single-hander blade that's fast and effective, and building it with a t2-handed grip. The results have invariably been a less effective sword. The reason is that shorter blades are made to be quick, relying on extreme speed inthe cut to impart effective cuts. When you add the length and weight of a 2-handed grip, you slow the blade speed significantly, sometimes to the point of making the piece handle like a sparing sword where your goal is to not be able to hurt your sparring partner. So anyway.... my idea of a tactical 2-handed (or hand&a-half) sword would incorporate an 8-9" grip and a 34" double-edged blade. The guard would be present, but might be more like the tsuba on a katana. That way the guard would be something to keep opponents' blades off my lead knuckle. But at the same time, wouldn't extend far enough off the edges to snag things and get in the way when carried. Hmmm...I wonder if I have a longsword blade that could be "retasked" to something along these lines. I think I know of one.... Anyone know where I could get a nice tsuba with no center hole, so I could fit it to an ATrim longsword blade?

Try SDK Supplies. I know they sell tsuba blanks, they'd probably be happy to do one without the tang hole for you if you ask nicely.

Mike, you're right about the blade having to have some of it's own momentum to be short and effective with 2 hands. I'm interested to see how this turns out if you get time to do it.
