I kinda bought this for myself as an early Christmas present since my family has a hard-n-fast rule about not buying swords, guns or anything else that's fun as Christmas or birthday presents. Jonathan Hopkins said I must post pictures, so here they are. ;D It's an Albion Gotland. I understand that the production was limited to 500 pieces, and they've all been made and sold. Albion shows them as a Viking Type Z and "SOLD OUT" without anymore to be built. I figured that if any sword should be photographed with an animal skin it's this one. It just oozes a primordial feeling in hand. One of the early Albion Next Generation Viking swords, this one has a one-piece cast pommel. The casting includes faux twisted wire. On a more authentic historical example, this wire would likely be used to help hold the two pommel pieces together. On some of the newer Albion Next Generation Viking swords, they actually use two piece construction. Here you can see the rivet on each side of the pommel. These protrustions simulate the rivets that would hold a real 2-pece Viking pommel together. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Thank you for posting, Mike. It is a beautiful sword! It is interesting to learn about the design shortcuts taken in this early Next Generation sword. They did a convincing job of simulating the two-piece construction of the pommel--I would not have guessed it was one piece.

Meh, not my type, but good job getting it THe gotland was one of the viking swords that they used a single piece pommel for - their later viking additions are all 2 pieces.

FWIW while the NG version is discontinued, Albion has a Squireline version available.

FWIW while the NG version is discontinued, Albion has a Squireline version available. A Squire Line Gotland? I had no idea. I thought there was only one Squire Line Viking sword, the Viking Type H with Geibig Type 4 blade. I don't see the Gotland anywhere else on the Albion website. Must be new? Or was it just done for another retailer?

Pommel and hilt arent polished, pommel doesnt have the faux rivets, grip isnt cord-wrapped and its made as a blunt, so sharpening gives a secondary bevel.

I see they offer a sharpened version. This makes me happy that I only paid about $80 more for mine than the sharpened Squire Line version. I was concerned I might have paid too much, but now I rate it a bargain.

Nice mike. I think this site can still use the Albion reviews and cutting demos, so don't be shy. Congrats mate, she'll keep you warm tonight.

Sounds like you got a great deal, Mike. Seeing as how most of the Albion vikings are +$1000 you probably neednt have worried. Anyhow, congrats on getting a great looker and cutter.
