Hello,
First post but have spent days reading the forum for information and now feel ready to ask specific questions. As titled above, I wish to purchase a Shobu Zukuri katana.I have looked as high as the Dynasty Forge Bushido Folded Tri-Steel which I saw reviewed here by MKR. He and many who commented called it a "must have" piece. From my limited knowledge I can see why it indeed might be so. At the low end I saw the Cheness 'Ayame' and the Raptor. I think I rule out the Raptor due to it's POB being blade heavy and so-so fittings(which I know can be changed but still not change it's POB without further extending the tsuka). Then in the middle priced range, and a contender based on very limited knowledge to the contrary, is the Munetoshi Shobu Kouken. I cannot find mention of this sword by anyone who owns it let alone reviewed it.
Here is my thinking on the three: If I buy the 'Ayame' I will probably have to have ( or want to have) the fittings redone ( probably by Frank the Bunny as he is the only person I yet know of that does this). If I buy the DF Bushido Tri-Fold I will probably need nothing done and own what some consider a "must have" piece. If I buy the Munetoshi which is only 2/3 price of DF I am kind of buying blind but it appears that it's fittings will be satisfactory..
What do I want it to do? I wish it to be worthy of admiration in appearance and feel in hand as well as have the cutting functionality that minimizes or forgives less than perfect cuts.( I do want to reduce risk of helicopter bades.) I do not rule out the unlikely but possible use of the sword as a sword but at this time I will have to travel to someone whose house has a backyard as I do not.
Lastly, it is possible that I will buy only one katana as I have only one gun ( really two but the first is identical to the second for back up and interchangeability of parts in event of breakage.
Sorry for such a long first post but you guys started it! Once I stumbled upon your forum I was hooked. All help will be appreciated with good karma sent your way!
