Over the Weekend, I was visiting a friend that collects antique items to sell. He has a couple of antique Katanas that he is working on dating at the moment. While I was there he handed me one of his antique katanas and told me to try it out to see what I thought of it. I swung the sword very slowly at first since I did not want to take a chance on damaging the sword. Soon he became annoyed that I would not swing the sword like I meant it. So with his blessing I began to swing the sword at full speed. Let me say I have been competing with masahiro katana in forms for about 5 years now. This antique katana felt like a scalpel in the air. I was able to combinations of cuts that I have never even thought about before. Soon my friend was asking me how to make some the combinations. I honestly had to say that I had no idea of what I had done since the sword felt like it guided me through the movents. I don't think I could do these movements again with my sword. That Antique Katana had a life of it's own. It was a pure dream come true.
Now A little about the sword. we do not know the actuall age of the sword yet however we are researching it now. One thing that I found different was the Tsuba. It had a decrative Mushasi style pin wheel and a solid tsuba that it sat against. I have not seen this on the web before. I will get pictures of it from him and post them for everyone to see. The Blade is Carbon steel, I do not believe it is damascus, and has a bohi groove running the length of the blade. the balance point is about 4 inches from the tsuba. Perhaps someone else knows about this tsuba configuration. All I know Is I love the feel of this sword.
