I am still working on putting together my Wars of the Roses footsoldier kit. When I am finished, it will consist of a padded jack with jack chains, open-faced sallet, arming sword, and buckler. What sort of armored gauntlets, if any, would be appropriate for such a kit, and are there any halfway decent ones available from India (custom-made ones, while they would fit better, are WAY too expensive, and I don't have the sheet-metal skills and such - -or the patience - to make my own).

A foot soldier isn't going to have much money for anything, as the rest of your kit demonstrates, so fingered gauntlets are clearly out. Some basic clamshell gauntlets are probably what you are looking for. Armstreet has several options that would work well. armstreet.com/store/gauntlets/I got my gauntlets from The Horny Viking at Pennsic. About $100. Not real great, though.

GDFB makes two mitten gauntlets which are quite plain but might suit your persona; you could always have picked them up off the battlefield, after all.
They're product codes AB0068 ($125) and AB2727 ($95-- these prices are Kult of Athena, btw). Don't ask me what the difference is, I can't see one... might warrant an email to Ryan to find out.

The AB2727 gauntlets sound like what I am looking for. I did a little research, and elsewhere on the web the descriptions indicate they are copies of a set that are in a museum, that go with a harness like the sort I am trying to put together (jack, jack chains, sallet, and possibly a glaive).

Nice, but rather past my time period.

Boy it can be a chore to get into this forum sometimes...
You might be right. I haven't looked for those through 1455 to 1485 (War of Roses). I just know that the Wallace Collection has some (a256 and a257) that are 1510. Also Durer's Paumgartner Triptych has some and he finished that in 1503. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them do not go back another 15 years or more to the end of WoR. I don't know what part of the WoR your going for. But I don't have time to dredge for such info right now.
Good luck on your kit!

Anybody have any experience with the GDFB gauntlets, as to their overall quality? Apparently the only difference between the two styles that KOA has is the shape of the cuffs, so I would go with the less expensive ones.

I wish I could answer your question, but I have no experience with them. It looks like the difference between them is the cuff. They look like they will allow a full gripped position- unlike my old Windlass Gothic Mitts I have and hate. Here are some pix from TA site if you haven't seen enough good pictures of them yet... therionarms.com/reenact/therionarms_c1018.htmltherionarms.com/reenact/therionarms_c1225.htmlThey look adequate. I think I'd be concerned mostly about if my index finger would "bottom out" or touch the end of the finger plate from the looks of them, but everyone has different hands.

I have the Milanese set. They are good for the money but do fit a bit loose. Have not had a chance to wear them over padded gloves yet so it might work better when they are on. I do like mine though.
