My sister is very mature for her age and she said that “rapiers are like, so sexy. Everyone else loves Japanese swords but, like oh my god, the rapier is so long and fast, and elegant”. Anyways she made me fall in love with them too.
She handled my khopesh before and she has experience with knives (she throws em too), and with kung fu. She also got in a few fights before against bigger people, outnumbered, etc. She’s tame now because she “prefers to mindF*** people instead”.
Anyways, where can I get a nice rapier, and how much are they?

Your sister sounds like a friend of mine a while back.
But I agree, rapiers are quite elegant. I've always wanted one but they're not high on my want list.
As for getting her one...well, I'd say go for it, just make sure she doesn't play with it like a toy, and keep it somewhere that's not her room. You can find them on Kult of Athena, there's quite a few.

She has a good taste in swords, I personally think the swept-hilt rapiers are the most attractive and elegant swords. I have one of these: Rapiers are very sharp at the points, and very long, so it's quite easy to have a mishap waving it around indoors! If she's responsible enought to own something potentially lethal, then it's OK to get her a live blade version, otherwise, get her a blunt-bladed training version.

First question is: What do your parents have to say about it? Second question: How responsible is she? Is she going to take ownership of such a weapon seriously?

...I like this girl. Of course she should have a sword. Darkwood Armoury has good reputation when it comes to rapiers. The economy hilt is $300, then ranging 400-500 for the fancier hilts.

I say yes but I had my own shotgun by 13 If she wanted to get in to historical fencing down the road you could get her the matching blunt blade for one of the nicer hanwei rapiers.

I'd make sure her parents are fine with it first. Then teach her to be careful- think how you'd feel if she hurt herself

there are definitely some 15-year-old that are more mature than some 20yo. Having said that you're still talking about a potentially deadly weapon. So what you really need to ask yourself is would you give her a gun or a chainsaw? Yes it's not the same thing but unless you're getting some sort of practice sword that is not pointy, remember that you're giving her something she could potentially lose an eye or injure someone else with. Or worse. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it and I freely admit that there are plenty of 15 or 16-year-olds that safely use firearms. But semprini happens, so think carefully before you make any decision.
If it was my 15-year-old sister I would buy myself a rapier that I thought she would like and then I would allow her to use it under my supervision as much as she wanted. I would definitely not present a live blade to her as a gift, any more than I would hand her a firearm and say "Merry Christmas, have fun".
15yos also have teenage friends that may not be as responsible as they are, another good reason to keep the weapon under your control until she is older.

As a father that has raised both boys and girls, I will offer this advice "NO!!", teenage girls are more volitile than teenage boys in my experience, thank god my girls are grown and married, I raised my girls to be strong, self reliant, and smart, and they are- now- in their teen years I wouldn't have been suprised to see them take a ball bat to each other, but no one else could touch one of them lol, now I have three boys, and they are a cake walk compared to their sisters, I don't know if It's got something to do with the boys knowing dad will put a knot on their head if nessesary where as the girls would start cryimg if I raised my voice and had me wrapped around their fingers- hey I was young and new at the whole parent thing, but the boys are good kids and very rarely ever cause a commontion, when the girls were teenagers it was WWIII every other week! Uggggh, no wonder I'm getting gray in my beard

I think most guys here just like the idea of a girl that's into swords!
Probably because there are so few females in our sport/interest/hobby...

This would be my plan. Get a rapier, let her pick out the style or whatever she likes best, but it's yours. When she turns 18, graduates high school, proves she's responsible or whatever she gets to have it. Obviously she gets to use it under supervision until then.
Good luck dude. I'm hoping at least one of my Nieces shows an interest in my hobbies when they get older. Lol.

I think you’re probably right, but my sister is a “bro”. I just looked up some rapiers and they’re all VERY expensive, and I’m the go big or go home kind of person, so I’ll wait till something special, like her wedding day or something to get her a rapier.
