Questions about buying a first sword

Hello all,
I'm interested in purchasing a functional sword in the very near future. I've been looking at swords in the 500$ range (and below, of course, as well as slightly above).
Can anyone compare and contrast these two swords, and/or suggest as good or better alternatives for the same price or less?
Sword 1:
sbg-sword-store.sword-buyers-gui ... ct222.html
To be clear, I'm referring to the BUSHI Silver Dragon 29" Katana, solid bodied blade.
Sword 2:
darksword-armory.com/products-pa ... tana-2210/
The specs on the second one don't specify if the metal is 1095 carbon steel, but I'm assuming it is based on the "lesser" sword on the same page being 1095. I'm also making the wild assumption that 1095 is better for a Katana than, say, 1060. If anyone wants to set me straight on any of this, they're more than welcome to do so.
So, question 1: Can anyone tell me which sword is better between those two? By "better," I'm asking a pretty general question. The criteria that matter to me are:
-Handling (balance, weight, and so on)
-Ability to cut
-How long the blade is likely to remain sharp without maintenance (beyond oiling and keeping it clean, of course)
-Reliability (how likely is this thing to fly apart after a bit of rough handling?)
-Effectiveness against zombies, dragons, hostile space aliens (who aren't blobs, gaseous, or generally sword-proof), ninjas, clowns, overly zealous coat-check attendants, and other nasties
Question 2: Is there anyone who can't compare the two, but at least tell me something useful about either one of them?
Question 3: Can anyone suggest a sword that's comparable in price, but is better than either of the swords I listed?
Question 4: Can anyone suggest a sword that's comparable in price, but while being as good as either of the swords I listed, might be better for me for X, Y, or Z reason?
Background that may be useful, but quite probably won't be:
-I'm in Canada
-I'm male and roughly 5'10".
-I have little experience with swords, but I've been involved in martial arts for a very long time and I understand that swords have to be treated with caution and respect
Many thanks in advance. Sorry about the overload of questions.
