Hi, Paul had kindly granted me the permission to share this here - a 2nd-hand Albion Gaddhajlt which I bought recently; I decided to seek his permission because this is beyond the 'Sub $300' category of focus here.. This is not a review, just some pictorial sharings through some photos I took.. Specifications from Albion website:Overall length: 104cm Blade length: 91cm Blade width at base: 5cm CoB: 17cm Weight: 1.1kgs This style of sword belongs to late Viking era. It was nicknamed "Gaddhajlt" (or 'Spike hilt') due to the distinctive thin quillons on the guard as compared to those traditional Viking swords with "stout" hilt form. Closeup of the hilt and the ox-blood color grip.. Some more pix of the guard. What attracts me to this sword is its sleekness, especially the hilt... Personally, I prefer sword with fullered blades, and with fullers that go beyond the guard (cross)... The blade is satin finished. Though a 2nd-hand, the previous owner had neither cut with or abuse it, it seems.. The pommel view.. Thanks for looking

Pommel is diffinately peened. Albion just does it so clearly, it's very hard to tell.
Karma for purchasing a fantastic sword!

Nice sword. I really like the grip. I have a Clontarf on the way, I can't wait to get it.

I think Rammstein is right... the pommel should be preened. Seems like it's the style of Albion. Indeed I'm a 'lucky dog' cos this deal also includes a well-made wooden core scabbard - just the wooden core, without the outer leather works yet. I'll be sending it to Tritonwork sometime next year for leather works ;D

If you visit Albion's site, they show how some rivets (peens) (like this one) are blended into the pommel, while others are left more obvious on other models, as suits the particular sword. Conga Rats, Larry! She's a beauty! Link: www.albion-swords.com/swords-components.htm You have to scroll down a bit to find the relevant info. Albion calls this type a "flush" peen.

Thanks everyone for your congratuations & compliments ;D Yes, simplicity is what attracted me ever since I 1st set eyes on this sword on the Albion site... --> Jpfranco, you have good memory! I received my semi-customized Lutel katzbalger some time in mid-Aug. The entire hilt was so nicely wrapped in plastic that I thought it's best to leave it alone for time being until I find a way to display it. Reason being if i remove those plastic wraps, it'll be susceptible to dust & rusting due to high humidity in our local environment. As such, I could not take any photos to share with you guys. Sorry for the wait I promise to get it out by mid Dec --> Matrix, I paid 600 for the Gaddhajlt & scabbard core set (incl. ground shipping). It's kinda hurting my pockets but I thought it's rare chance to get a scabbard with it.. I'll have to survive on bread & butter for some time now... Glad you guys like it!

Congratz on a great acquisition, Larry. I think that is one of the most desirable Albion swords and is on my "most desired" list. I plan on snatching up the next one I see at a good price on the used market. Great good fortune to get it with a wood core scabbard.

Is it really a 2 handed sword? Isn't the grip about 5.25"?
Thanks in advance for the clarification! And congratulations on a beautiful new sword!

I don't think he is referring to a 2-handed sword, he is implying it is a used sword by saying "2nd hand".

Oop.. Sorry for the confusion ;D It's an one-hander... Hmm... but perhaps someone could feedback to Albion to consider creating a similar but 2-hander version of the Gaddhajlt... Who knows, it may be a hit, too

Not historicaly.
Would look completely anachronistic. Brazil nuts weren't generally used on two handed swords, nor were type Xa blades...
