Hey all,
Looking around and saw Darksword armoury, and what looks like an amazing deal. Read the reviews on the site, and wondered if anyone else has experience with them. One of my main concerns is flexibility at this point. Looking at doing SCA Cut and Thrust, which mandates a 1/4" (or more) flex when hanging a 3oz weight from the end. If anyone who owns one would do that for me, and let me know how it goes, that would be amazing. Thanks!

Hello, this is Jason from Arms of Valor.
I have handled nearly all of the Darksword Swords (including the Norman) and due to the thickness of the blades they have almost no flex at all.

So, that would be a "Definate No" to the amount of flex, or "I dont think so"? Just looking for a clarification. Any other ideas of quality swords in that price point? Havent seen many nice looking Normans with simple wheel pommels (as opposed to faceted, engraved with a cross, etc)

Many people who practice Historical European Swordsmanship (HES) and SCA sword practitioners use products from www.darkwoodarmory.com (not Darksword). Scott Wilson offers a number of sub $300 swords, and now has a line that offers simple cross guards a wheel pommels. PS--I think Jason is saying "definitely no."

I will concur, there is no flex in the Darksword without heavy effort. However, the edges are very thick which is a plus for sword to sword play.

I know of Darkwood, and their great reputation, as many of the fencers in my area have rapiers from them. Sad to hear that this probably wont work out, but appreciative of all of the information.

oswyn, I have one of Darkwood's English basket hilts and I like it quite a lot. I have only used it for solo drills, but the flex would be appropriate for partners work.

Hello` I have 3 darksword-armory swords myself.. They are thick blades!! I`m able to flex them over 6 inches after stabbing them in a hickory stump. they have all returned to true with no problems. But they really can`t be flexed that far without stabbing them into a sold object. hope this helps.. Jason W

Being as I will be fighting other people, as opposed to stumps, I dont think they would like me sticking it in them to get any flex... ![:)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
