Thought I'd share a few pics of some forced patinas I did on a couple knives of mine. Procedure: soak a paper towel with white vinegar and wrap the blade for 30 min or so. Then clean off with an SOS pad. Easy. Alternatively you can just dip the blade or stick a ziploc bag with vinegar in it around it too. Only works on carbon steels. CS Gurka Kukri CS Trailmaster Any thoughts on Forced Patinas? If you have a carbon blade, it inevitably going to rust and discolor anyway. I say go ahead. I kind of like the look. Gives it character. Plus, once this is done, the blade won't rust any more - with normal handling.

Funny, but I did the exact same thing with the forced vinegar patina on both my Cold Steel kukri and bushman. On the kukri, I wrapped the blade with paper towels saturated with heated vinegar and left it sit overnight. I gave it a good scrubbing in the morning, let it dry, and then applied some oil. As Borat would say, "Very nice!"

Looks great man. I gave my Spartan 300 a heavy dose of hydrogen perodixe and salt- several coats actually. Gave it a pitted and greyed patina and it does look much more aged and adds character.

Over at the kitchen knives forum, I have seen people patina their knives with mustard -- very cool pattern. One dude did it with blood, it came out blue/purple, very interesting color.
