I just got the newest catalog from Museum Replicas Ltd. the first thing that caught my attention was a new sword they have in their catalog based on the sword from the Schloss Erbach. They don't have it on their website as of now, but I'm sure it will be there soon. This will be the second manufacturer to make a model based off this historic original, also referred to as Oakeshott XVIIIa.4 which formerly resided in the collection at the Schloss Erbach. See www.myarmoury.com/review_aa_schloss.html for a review of the version from Arms&Armor called...of course...the Schloss Erbach, along with a photo of the original sword they are based on.

This could be interesting, but I'm afraid of Windlass for this type. It seems likely to turn out similarly to your Arbedo, but longer and narrower? Judging by the picture of the A&A offering, and assuming (as it's basically to be the same sword) similar design, I'm leery of its whip.
Hopefully I'm horribly mistaken and Windlass will get it right this time. In which case I guess we'll have two weeks to buy it.

Sorry, I only have the catalog and no scanner. If MRL follows past actions, it should be on their site within a week or so. The official name is "Erbach Sword" and the catalog number is #501058.
From the catalog photo, it definitely looks to have a definite hollow ground blade. So it doesn't look quite as much like the original as the A&A offering, but it is very close.

If it's hollow ground (I just got my catalogue in today) you can expect it to be pretty rigid.
I'm extremely interested in this piece.

PM us the review! Don't make your praise public. Remember, Windlass is watching you, just waiting for an excuse to discontinue it! ![:'(](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/cry.png)

Yeah keep it under wraps. I'm undecided as to whether to pick up the Windlass XVI Arming Sword, (Where's that Review, Matrix? Hint, Hint. ;D), or to hold out for this sword. Hollow Grinds FTW!

It really does look fantastic, but I agree with random, I pray the blade is nice and stiff. ![:-/](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

The blade on the Erbach looks similar in construction to the "Early Spanish Sword" that debuted in the last catalog (which I didn't find in the new catalog!) Trueswordsman is getting me one of those to test out. If it's not downright floppy I will buy it and write 'er up ASAP.

Hey Shooter Mike, the Early Spanish will be in tomorrow. I will have a look at it and let you know my thoughts as soon as it comes in.
I have not had much trouble with (floppiness) of the shorter Windlass swords, it is usually the longer ones that really have a problem. Anything over hand and a half.

Ah yes, college. Or University as we call it up here. I better get started on that... ![:P](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) You also have to find someway of getting a video to us of you cutting. Thus far we have not seen any evidence proving that you arn't full of crap, and can't handle a sword to save your life. So some video! ;D

Very nice. I saw it at the myarmoury forum. Looking good. Dammit, now my choice is even harder...
BTW, how does one go about getting a subscription to the MRL catalog?

That is pretty. I hope it's good, but Windlass doesn't find out. ![:-X](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/lipssealed.png) As to how to get a subscription, I have no idea. I think there's a link to request a catalog somewhere on their page that puts you on a mailing list.

I just had a look at the Early Spanish Sword. It has a very wide blade (2-3/4 inches at the base), which is actually tip heavy with a balance point over 5 inches. The grip is covered in a brown suede/leather and is actually very narrow. If I were to use one I would have to add another layer of leather for a better grip.
Maybe Windlass got the hint as there is nothing whippy about this sword. It is very solid and once sharpened and the grip modified would make a very good cutter. Though with the balance point would not be quick or easy to recover after the swing.

It usually takes Windlass a while to get new swords onto their website. THey nearly always show up in the catalog quite a while before they appear online. If you don't want to wait, you could call MRL, and likely order one. No telling when it will show up online, unfortunately. ![:'(](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/cry.png)
