There are quite a few reviews of this sword around, check the main page's Viking Swords section, you'll catch most, if not all, of them. I also had an opportunity to briefly handle ShooterMike's Witham; albeit after some pretty heavy testing which left it in rather rough shape, though I don't imagine this affected the general handling much. I found the sword bulky, a tad heavy, but overall it felt like a sword. Personally, I prefer the handling of my Hanwei Godfred, but I'd get a Witham if I had the cash. You have the Darksword Oslo, right? I'd be interested in knowing how the two compare...as well as several other Viking blades. Once upon a time, I wanted Windlass' Stickelstad, but after Paul's review I was somewhat turned-off. I've not found many Viking swords (short of the Witham) that appeal to me quite the same way, especially not in any price I'd ever be willing to pay. Anyway, if memory serves, the general consensus (of I think three reviews) was that this is a good sword. I think even Rammstein compared it to an Albion. Which, I imagine, is a good thing.

i'm on it! i think it handles great... but unfortunately i don't have any other viking swords on hand to compare it too... its not a light sword... definately has some 'heft' to it... which is not a bad thing, actually a good thing i'd say... cutting with it is really awesome i slaughtered some pumpkins the other night... so satisfying...

oh and while slaughtering the pumpkins i missed a bit with one of my swings and hit a brick (which the pumpkin was sitting on) pretty hard
the brick definately got the worst of it, in fact the witham's blade barely showed any sign of the impact...

I love mine too. It was the first Gen2 sword I bought and got me hooked on their blades. Its one of the easiest to cut with swords I have. It also gives off a really cool ringing when I cut with it. Kult of Athena lists it as in stock there.

It is one of our best sword I think. If you compare the original stats which is listed on the page you will see how close we came to the original. Believe me, I am not bragging, just want people to see from the stats how well we did. In fact our POB is better then the original which gives it the real nice balance. I hope this helps. Also remeber on the Witham and Dordogne you get a 11x17 print of the drawing from Hank with his signature.

I love my Witham. It's definitely a powerful sword, and not so very agile, but it was also not meant to be used for defense. Your shield was for that. This sword is very authoritative. I think that's the best word.

The River Witham Viking sword is one of my favorite swords, actually. Shootermike and I both have reviews up on the main SBG site. I think the only thing to warn you about (and I say this in my review as well) is that if you’ve only handled katana, this will feel like trying to swing a lead brick. That handling is surprisingly poor if its your first sword of this region in history, but it is a different type of handling, neither better or worse. It requires and entirely different method of use and simply cannot be compared to the swords of other nations. Personally, I find the katana to be much more “natural,” but I prefer the handling of early Europe swords with their unique type of handling. I’d like to stress that the witham doesn’t handle poorly – just drastically different from what you would expect if you aren’t already experienced. It’s not going to turn on a dime and it certainly won’t float. But it will destroy shields something awful. And the handling grows on you to the point where, if you get into it enough (I consider myself able to appreciate this a little), you can learn to use it quite dexterously. But compared to a katana, proper handling does not come as naturally in my humble opinion – But I love my witham and the handling really does grow on you –you just need to learn an entirely different form of appreciation.
Take that as you will
edit: Hey Clyde, my witham did not come with any drawing and sig - was this included on later models or something?

I got mine too early for the drawing too. I find it easier to stay on target and change targets faster one handed so I prefer my Witham over any of my katanas. I am learning to do better two handed and to use my katanas one handed but the grip on the Witham is the most natural feeling to me right now.

anyone interested in the witham might want to check out my recent pumpkin cutting experience: /index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1195962930&page=1 basically the blade bent on a bad cut, but i straightened it out again and it seems to be doing fine
