i've seen that video a couple of times ) though both seem nice to it's still a hard choice... if there was a store in my area with both sword sold there i could get more info by actually have them in hand but oh well i think i'll have to trust everyone's informations (including reviews) and choose. if it weren't for the price i would have chose the CS jade lion i really like the style but my budget won't be big enough even if i wanted to wait and save...

The Jian was sharper out-of-the-box, cut paper. Gim was not sharp enough to cut paper out of box. I think it varies from sword to sword for each manufacture probably. The wood handle has a really nice feel to it and I like how it matches the scabbard on the gim. From a purely aesthetic standpoint the gim is definitely much better. Also I find that it becomes loose more slowly when using it for lots of cutting compared to the gim And it's less of a pain in the ass to tighten the nut on the gim than is to get a hex wrench into the Jian. The gim is waaaay thicker. The Jian is much wider bladed, which does give it a nice look. It also has a much more traditional balance, but I like the balance on the gim better.
Between the two, if you have to choose one, get the gim. before you even do any test cutting, you will be glad you did as soon as you see how the fishscale pommel and handle look in person

You have to get both eventually. I own both of them and they are great swords, but I would say get the rodell cutting Jian first. The cutting Jian is the most like a real historical Jian and and it can handle harder targets even if it's not super sharp. I personally like the looks of the cutting jian over the gim becasue it has steel fittings instead of the usual carved brass most Jian have, and the leather cord wrapped grip which is really comfortable and sturdy. Also the cutting jian has a better nut and pommel structure. The downside to the sword is they don't come, very sharp. I have owned two of them and neither one of them came that sharp at all, while the Gim usually comes with a really sharp edge right off.
The colds steel gim has a pretty good reputation though and thats becasue it's a great sword. the sword flows really well in one hand techniques and cuts.
You won't regret getting either one, which ever one you decide, and I think those two are the best choices for jian swords compared to alot of the others available.

what i would have took without hesitations would have been a han dynasty jian with a 28 inches or more blade, steel fittings (plain or not) secured the same way the cutting jian is. THAT would be my kind of sword 100%... oh well i guess i can only dream about this ^^'

Han Jian in short blade like the one I recently presented is okay and good for the size, you won't understand how cool a short sword is unless you start chopping indoor. This is so good.. a longer sword don't function that well in indoor situation and so for home defense, you want a han jian with a shorter blade! haha!

i know how practical it is but i'm more used to a longer blade. thing is i would like a han jian with the same tang proportions as the HCJ and probably a handle made of the same stuff as well (resin with rayskin fullwrap). but since i don't know chinese language and dialects i can't communicate good enough to get one 100% like i want. if only i knew a chinese swordsmith i would have asked him!

No worry, Lancelot know Chinese very well, he is a HKnese, and he already said even he told the smith to do it HIS WAY and make it HIS DESIGN, with THICK tang and so on.. they STILL don't do it your way. He claim that is how the industry is, too bad, if you want a han sword, they do it THEIR WAY only, hahahaha.. I hope Cold Steel make one, then I can surely trust CS on that because their stuff are tested to their standard and I trust that quality more than Dragonwell!
