Heh, i finally got to it. This pommel nut came off quite easily. Now i see this inside: Hammering this thing down won't do much good i reckon. And being a n00b as i am i have no idea how to take the bloody thing apart. The end of the tang was definitely heated up and hammered down by the looks of it. The problem is that the actual thing is about 1 cm inside the pommel which makes it unreachable. And of course the pommel itself won't budge.

Are you guys trying to tell me that none of you encountered anything like this before? Apparently i'll have to destroy the pommel and get a new one made. And the guard while i'm at it. Hmmmm, are those things expensive? And is there a site which sells and ships sword parts internationally?

Dremel can grind off the peened area, and then you should be able to get in there with a ball-pein afterwards. If you cant, then take a piece of barstock, and grind a small dimple in the end. Use it to "set" the tang into a peened rivet.

Yeah a dremel could do it. Or if worst came to worst, maybe you could use an appropriate drill to remove the last half centimetre of tang which is holding it together? Then you'd have to take a cm off the shoulder to re-do it. www.varmouries.com/vspecial.htmlPommels from these guys are quite reasonable, though I've found the holes through their wheel pommels are off centre. But their stopper pommels are good - as can be seen on my Wallace and Leaf Bastard swords. Or complain and just try to get GG to take it back?

Its' already been too long for that probably. Plus the blade is superb, and i don't mind a mini project like this. Thanks guys, will get to it shortly.

My eyes could be tricking me but it looks to me like that's a threaded pommel with a bit of JB weld on the end of it. Try dremeling off the bit on the end there and then put the crossguard in a vice and try to twist off the pommel counterclockwise.

Hmmmm, Been thinking. What if it the rattling in the hilt is caused by the wood? Simply, the wood might not be a tight enough fit around the tang. I think i'll just unwrap the leather and remove the wood. I'm planning on making a thinner grip anyway. I think i'll try this first.
