Hey all, Sorry if this has been posted about before but it's news to me! I was taking a look around their site and noticed that they are now offering european style swords under their G series line... I am wondering if anyone has experiences with them? ( www.globalgear.com.au/category276_1.htm about halfway down) I will probably stay away from them after hearing about poor customer service but thought that some might like to or may already know about these swords and share some info on them. Detail on weight or balance is not provided so that's a little disappointing. I thought this sword www.globalgear.com.au/prod2701.htm looked pretty generic but ok... their video seems to show it as pretty durable but there isn't any display of cutting (i.e. sharpness/finesse) ![:(](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) I assume that zinc aluminium guards mean that they are not for contact... but are they an issue for backyard cutting?

No contact with the aluminium guard but a good cutter as far as i have been able to ascertain. If i had 200 i would rip the guard and pommel off and create them out of steel and with viking pommel and cross guard.

No personal experience with them, but it does say that the zinc alloy components were a mistake by the manufacturer, and that they will be available in steel in the future, so if you wait a while, that should solve that issue. Otherwise they look pretty decent, though the grip wrap looks a bit odd. I'd probably rewrap the grip if I had one. There are several tutorials on that, so that shouldn't present much of an issue either.

The grip looks like leather strap wound around. Probably won't stay tidy for long - lift at the edges. Maybe left over from their katanas?
I'd be willing to give one a go.

Hmmm
The sword LOOKS tough, but listen carefully. At first, when he hits the metal pipe, it makes a clear, ringing sound. This is good. However, against the wood it starts gettling rattly. Listen especially around when there is 20-15 seconds left to the video (the last blow). The sword rattles quite a lot.
So really, the blade is tough, but the hilt assembly is not!

I thought about getting their Scimitar, but there are absolutely no specs at all. It looks really nice, but that's it. I'm not buying anything without seeing the specs.

SHipping to USA is AU$135! ![:o](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) Still, if I could win one at like $45, that would only work out to around $150-something USD, shipped. I'd give it a shot if I could get one for that.

I just got their Solingen sword: ![](http://a169.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/104/l_5201b98aa542b38ae12f84b2e6c25198.jpg) And it rattles in the hilt when i swing it. And the guard is a bit loose too. What should i do? I'm thinking about dripping a few drops of liquid metal inside. Any advice? ;D

No idea. I wouldn't dare taking it apart. Not with my knowledge and skill at least. ;D This is the pommel though: ![](http://globalgear.com.au/images/dsc_4139copy.jpg) And what looks really poor? You can't see anything from the picture. ![:P](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

looks like a modern interpretation of a sword - a failed one at that.
just opinion of course.
Anyways, hammer down that little nob at the pommel. Just take a hammer to it, it should tighten. It looks peened, that why I asked.

What? Its pretty close to the actual solingen, apart from the broader handle: ;D ![](http://albion-europe.com/shop/images/AB/Albion/MuseumLine/Solingen/solingen2.jpg) And you mean just hammer the knob straight down? The thing is already as tight as it can be.

Yep, very sharp. So, what do you guys think, would liquid metal solve the problem? ![:P](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) And what can i do about the loose guard?

Look positively nothing like that sword at all. It's very small details that ruin it, in my mind.
Hammer the knob straight down. It's called a peening block and global obviously doesn't know that a peen isn't just for decoration but actually serves the purpose of *gasp* holding the sword together!
Basically, what you'd be doing is finishing the job they should have completed. The hilt of this sword is held together with a compression fit meaning that the pommel, handle, and gaurd stay together depending on how tight the peen is rather than being custom fitted to the sword. It's a cost thing. essentially, they're cutting corners. Word of warning , you'll get some cosmetic damage to the peening block if you do the hammer thing.

that peen block looks almost decorative...you sure its not a nut under there. the pommel could be screwed on and that "peen block" threaded on after. you could try GENTLY turning the pommel to see if its loose. be careful tho if it is peened you could twist the tang
