i was looking through some of Hanwei's blades, and i noticed they offered some of their swords in damascus steel. I just wanted to know everyone's thoughts on this design.

I'm suss on it. A. is it just etched on - I fear it may be? B. is it going to make the sword weaker, being a blend with a softer steel. A bent sword is just an expensive wallhanger. C. It's not like the sickest art style damascus anyway.

I'm fond of pattern welded and folded blades, though I wish vendors would quit calling them damascus. I don't think they belong on everything. I believe the vikings among others made good use of pattern welding, so it's not always out of place. I have my eye on a Godfred replacement blade for a project on the horizon, but like Brenno i hesitate to buy "damascus" from a sub $300 manufacturer. This one says it's folded though, and I found it cheap so i'll prob get it. If i do i'll review it for the forum.

Pattern welding is very nice to see but the sword is not any better because of it, not anymore. And it is not historical on European swords from about 1300 onward...

It won't be REAL Damascus steel; so the idea doesn't appeal to me.
