As it says....looking for an opinion. Plus I'm wondering if its just a flat shaped blade....tapir etc.

Well it's definitely not a Tapir. Whether or not it has any distal taper I wouldn't know since I don't own one, but I couldn't resist poking fun. [EDIT: I just looked it up, are you talking about the Kopis machete? If so it won't have any taper. It'll be a piece of flat stock in whatever profile shape with an edge put on it. I have the magnum kukri machete and it's a decent tool and great backyard cutter, but out of the box it had the black coating on the edge and had to be sanded off before it could cut. The edge geometry is also not that great but it's serviceable for chopping branches and cutting a few bottles. However I bought mine a few years ago, so they may have improved the QC.]

I use a sheath with a side pouch where I keep the baby tapir!
Seriously, it's not a proper sword in its geometry and grind, it's a machete made out ouf a piece of flat steel, shaped like a kopis, just like their gladius machete. That said, the gladius machete has got really great reviews everywhere, and with a biy of sharpening and regrinding the edge to give it a proper bevel, by most accounts it's very impressive!

Tapir....sigh, the typo fairy loves me. Anyhow, yes, I meant the Kopis Machete. Great to know it's just a piece of flat stock, I need a bush trimmer etc. and I figured if I have to get one, I may as well get something like this. I'll do a write up on it once I give it a run thru. So it will either fail catastrophically or it will be 'just a odd tool'

Extremely doubtful that it will fail. I'm sure it'll be great for hacking up branches.

Hacking through brush, branches is what that machete geometry is designed to do! With a kopis profile, it will most likely cut even better than a regular machete. You'll definitely find it will easily outcut swords on these really hard targets.

Cold steel machetes went through three generations. First gen, which included the kukri machete( I have it, and love it) came with a "utility edge". More or less dull. Second gen, which includes the cold steel gladius machete, it came fairly sharp. We're in the third gen now and they come sharper then the 2nd gen. So the kopis will come quite sharp out of the bag (comes in a bag, hah).
