Hey there. I'm currently in the market for a new blade, and i've settled on 2 choices. 1.Hanwei/CAS practical Norman 2.Hanwei/CAS practical Hand-and-a-half I'd gladly accept any recommendations for which one would be the better choice.

Why CAS? Do any other manufacturers tickle your fancy?
What do you plan to do with them?

Yup. I like the Hanwei practicals. Id lean to the hand and half as it still handles very well and has a longer reach on your opponent.

I'd suggest taking a look at www.darksword-armory.com as i think you will find something even better for less, but that is just my opinion.

I don't see anything at darksword for less than the practical series Hanweis. My only issue would be they are blunts. Depends on what you plan on doing with them. Unless your that mutantly talented brenno. In which case you just change the sword to suit yourself. ;D
Of the two mentioned I'd take the hand and a half. I been eyeing the sharp version, tho way more money that one. I think I'll wait for a solid pommel.

thx guys, but i simply plan on using these as showpieces, and to practice forms with. i just dont want to accidentally lop and ear off ![:P](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Thats kind of why I bought my Hanwei Practical Hand and a Half. It was my first beater and I wanted something I could learn to cut safely without cutting my head off. I started by sharpening the tip half of only one side of the blade. That way I could whack myself with the back of the blade. And I could grab the base side of the blade if I had to. Then moved to the tip half of the other side. Eventually I have sharpened the whole blade down to a very deadly bevel, just like the Albrecht. I left a 6" ricasso blunt at the base. Ive also polished it up to a mirror finish now and its a wicked fully functional beater for me. Its also proven mega durable as I have abused it heaps. It also cuts well, as I have proven with multiple bottle row cuts. You can check out my review here: /index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=1187959333

You know I'd thought I'd point out....it really is difficult to, say, cut your own ear off with a sword. Unless the sword has a defect (which is why you don't buy SLOs), it is pretty darn hard to injure yourself unless you try to....or have RicWilly's form ;D. To movement of the sword arm makes it unlikely that the sword will ever come in contact with your body.
Just my views on it. Yes, safety first and all that. I'm just pointing out the whole trip fisk: "Swords will poke your f****n' eye out!" is absolutely malarky, IMO. They're safe enough to use as you don't try anything inherently stupid and your sword is of decent quality.

I haven't handled the normand, but I can report that the balance on the hand and a half is quite nice.
