Hello everybody! First, congratulations for a very useful forum... Second, I'm buying a second half of 14th or early 15th century longsword and I consider Hanwei Albrecht II, Bastard and Gen2 Lucerne or Black Prince.
Albrecht II is here in Croatia about 80USD more expensive than Bastard and I don't know is it worth that. I'm willing to fix a Bastard's pommel if I will have to and I would like to know if Albrecht has a better and more durable blade or the price is in the historical accuracy, looks, balance and maybe better pommel?
Gen2 swords are quite expensive here (Lucerne and Black Prince are more expensive than Hanwei Albrecht II) and I wonder if they are worth that if I won't abuse my sword?

Hello Luka, and welcome. I don't have those particular Hanweis tho I got the Edward III and it's a good sword but didn't come real sharp.
I have the Gen2 12th century sword and to me it's more durable than the Hanwei Edward III. However, Gen2 has had some problems with their longer stuff a while back tho it supposed to have been sorted out. Still you never know whats still floating around the venders.
While I don't have the particular swords you mentioned tho others here do so hopefully they will chime in with their opinions.
Don't think I've been much help but good to see someone from Croatia here.

Luka, I have both those swords. If you have not had a chance to handle or see them in person, the names are misleading. The Albrecht is a true hand-and-a-half sword. Mine has been durable in the extreme, though the pommel is hollow and is ony held on the tang with epoxy. I would rate its handling as good. It cuts well, in fact much better than the blade prifile would lead you to expect. The blade profile also makes for a good thrusting sword and the point tracks pretty well. The Hanwei Bastard Sword is definitely misnamed IMO. It is almost in the size-range of a Great Sword with a 9.5 inch grip and 39 inch blade, as compared to the Albrecht's 6.5 inch grip and 34.75 inch blade. I find it to handle Ok, though not nearly as good as the Albrecht. It is a heavy sword and getting it to proper speed for good cutting is a challenge on lighter targets. As for thrusting, the tip is a little bit of a challenge to control and the tip profile is definitely not designed for thrusting in a 14th or 15th century armor environment. Comparison photo: So if you want a hand-and-a-half sword, IMO the Albrecht is the best choice. It has also proven to be a reliable sword, and for me it handles much better.

Thank you, Mike. I handled Bastard and I will handle all swords I mentioned before buying anything because there is just about an hour for me to get to the shop. I will use the sword with two hands, it doesn't really matter which because I'm rather small (162cm, 60kg) and all these swords will be two - handers for me. ![;)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) I'm more concerned in blade quality. I read your tests Mike and I watched you cutting with improved Bastard and Albrecht on youtube but didn't menaged to pull out which blade is better, not concerning the balance, size and other things... And Gen2 are probably even better blades but I have to admitt that I prefer the looks and historical accuracy of Hanwei... And after all you wrote and after I will handle all these swords, I will probably take Albrecht because it seems like a really good sword for the money, I like it both visualy and the handling regarding what I read...

I'd go the Albrecht. It feels great in the hand, right down to the soft leather grip. Its not a bad cutter at all - fun to be had. Also it will thrust through car doors if you want.

I bought Gen2 12th century sword, cut some branches with it and it bend. Fortunately, the guy in the store is very fair and he gave me my money back. Now I'm ordering Del Tin 2142 or 5143 from him, I'm not sure yet, but I will definitely go with one of them because of my love towards XIIa and XIIIa war swords. (At the begining I was very much into 15th century longswords but I found out that I like more cut - oriented war swords). Maybe someone has some experience with 2142, 5143 or some other similar Del Tin sword (maybe 2146)?

DT5143. Shes a big SOB. 49" long, same as Mikes 'Bastard' sword. 1700g is quite light however for a large sword like that. Have fun with her. ![](http://www.deltin.it/5143hi.jpg) ![](http://www.deltin.it/5143.jpg) HAND AND A HALF SWORD. Fourteenth Century. Long steel blade with narrow fuller that extends for most of the blade length. Steel quillons, flattened at the ends. Iron wheel pommel. Long wooden and leather bound grip. Length overall 124 cm. Weight 1700 gr.

My DT5143 is ordered with 2133 st. Maurice pommel www.deltin.net/2133.htm and 2147 crossguard www.deltin.net/2147.htm . It will be a twohander in a 11th or 12th century style. I wanted a twohander that might be carried by a knight in a first, second and third crusade and this is it...

Just to throw my two cents in I just received my G2 Lucerne and I love it. It has a long grip so you can have pretty much any type of glove or gauntlet on and still have room. The blade came sharp and goes through water bottles with ease. I haven't cut anything else yet, but I'm working on it. Due to the long handle and solid pommle the blade seems very light and moves swiftly with seemingly no effort. Overall I'm very happy with the sword.
