I'm planning on purchasing the Windlass Beowulf sword on Friday, since I found out I could get it for near $150 less than from MRL, and I was wondering if anyone on this forum owned one, or is familiar with it. any help would be appreciated.

I'd like to point out that those little white slivers are plastic. 100% sure of this, too.

That's okay, I knew that already. It's not that big of a deal to fashion new ones. I don't think it will affect handling. And ABS is pretty durable.

I have seen and handled one during my last visit at Reliks and I was extremely surprised by how nicely balanced this sword is. The sword I handled was top notch quality. The blade was stiff, well balanced, the hilt was tight and the scabbard was fitted nicely so the sword fit snuggly in it. The craftsmanship was superb.
Now, that being said, quality control may be an issue. I am sad to say, and some people can attest for this here, that Windlass has not been consistent lately in this department. But, if you get one like the one I handled, go for it. I am thinking about getting one myself. I am just waiting to see the new Type X model from Valiant/Trim/Fletcher before committing.

Thanks for the input. I'm buying from AoV, so I don't think I'll have a hard time getting an exchange if it's a dud.

Hey guys check this out. These guys apparently made the swords for the movie. Check the photo below. Its a blade from a Hanwei Practical Viking, and also the scabbard clearly. Check this page for their sale price. Not real affordable. www.varmouries.com/vspecial.html

I'm trying to figure out what is up with that upper rivet. Looks like loop with a ring through it??? Anyone know if that has something to do with the story? Is that to tie the sword to your hand?

Speaking of rivets...
Wouldn't those little rivets in the hilt (crossgard) be poking at your hand while wielding the sword and be annoying?

The rivets are correct in their position, but not so sure about their size. I recently saw a bunch of Viking swords at the MET with ShooterMike. All of them had rivets but they were so flat that I could not see them until I squatted down for an under-view. I then made a comment to Mike about the Rivets. Rivets are usually hammered flat. I don't see any reason why they should stick out . Given the slipped grip that the Vikings used, I expect rivets of that size to stick to the ring finger and hinder performance.

Thanks Jonathan. Those are amazing! How did they get that much detail into them? +1 for making me drool.
