Hey Mordrent The Landschnekt looks nice and blingy and out there, but being a windlass such a narrow 40" blade would be whippy I'd imagine. The German hand and 1/2 looks more understated but still very nice, and looks like more of a cutter, and may have a more resilient blade (beings shorter, broader, and fullered) - its the one I'd pick as I want to be able to cut and thrust medium targets, as well as hang it on my wall.

The new german h&h gets my vote. Look at that landsknecht sword's weight - that's quite a lot. I think you'll find the H&H to be far more lively in the hand.

thanks Rammstein and Brenno ..now I think the H& H it's the best choice.. .. do you know if all the Windlass 40" blades are "whippy" in general or is just a problem of some models ??

I've yet to hear of any of the newer models having this problem. It's only been those from a few years past that were so whippy. Best of luck, but I'm forcing you to review it ![;)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I believe that there is a review on this website (SBG, not the forum) that deals with a two-hander from windlass, and if my memory serves me correctly the reviewer didn't complain about the blade being "whippy" Look it up if you're interested.

My Windlass 15th century longsword is "whippy", no two ways about it. It's still a good sword for the money though. I view this sword as a blank canvas; I'm going to make a new, more even waisted core for the handle, change the pommel and maybe the guard, and give it a nice, rich oxblood leather wrap. BTW, I may have a solution for the infamous Windlass lacquer, I'll let you know if it works... Go for the h&h, it looks as if they've made at least some concession to the idea of blade geometry, who knows? Give it a try and let us know.
