df.advoca.com/swords/chinese_arm ... n_mao_dao/ Anyone have this dao? If so, is it good quality? How are Dynasty forge's products? They are a division of Huanuo aren't they?

Yeah I saw it too, it's a little expensive. The SBG store offers one too for a limited time and it comes with free shipping too! Dynasty Forge makes really good stuff and yes I believe Huanou manufactures blades for them and for Cold Steel.

Can't take advantage of the SBG store's free shipping, I live in Europe. Oh well, I may just pick this up in a month or so, unless anyone can give me a reason why I shouldn't?

The SBG store has a 10% off promotion so it might cover your shipping until the end of this week
I just ordered one myself as my first dao and Dynasty Forge product

Unfortunately, I have to wait a while before buying another sword. I paid for my Sinosword Jian and I bought a Hanbon Swords Katana for a friend for his Birthday, so I probably will need a month or so before I can buy again. Then the problem is WHAT to buy. Hanbon Swords has an awesome Feather grain DH Jian that I want, I would like a CS Jade Lion Gim, This Yan Mao Dao, and Dynasty Forge's Jue Yun Jian (I'd love the deluxe model one that Scott Rodell sells, but its too much money)

Cool...Let me know which Jian that you feel is the best from those options when you get them.

Looks like a Huanuo blade to me, I think I saw it from them before, something similar. Nice blade pattern though, but I like the square grip version more but this thing got a dragon mouth thing on the guard's opening which is my favorite desigh, argh..

I've been thinking about the Yan Mao Dao a bit more, and I have to wonder, why is there such a shortage of them available to us? I mean there is this one, the Hanwei Beile Dao, and the Huanuo Qianlong Imperial Dao.
I love a good Willow Leaf dao, not a big fan of the Ox Tail personally, but I'm finding myself more interested in the Goose Quill dao at the moment. It seems to be the most versatile of the 3, at least from what little I've read. I'd have thought there would be more interest in something like this, but nope, only 3 out there at the moment.

Yeah...I plan to get one of each of the 4 types of daos and this is the cheapest of the three. I actually like the navy blue and redwood look as it looks like something an Imperial Navy Officer would use.

The huanuo qianlong imperial dao is REALLY EXPENSIVE but IMPRESSIVE! hahaha! I would love one in my lifetime!

We don't hear much about Dynasty Forge these days, but a couple of years ago they were known as one of the top dogs in the katana market. They probably still are, and that blade is probably worth it's price, if it is made with the same quality control that I've seen on DF katana's.

hahaha we have similar taste then. I have the Hanwei beile Dao. Fangshi “square style” - angular fittings and scabbard on dao with dragon tunkou (blade collar/habaki). Fangshi is cool... but if you are not used to it, it's kindda sharp on edges... Probably best to use gloves.

Yea man, I just googled belle dao before and came up with your review on SBG back then with the photos and I got MORE hyped about this thing, hahaha! No worry about the square grip, I have one of these back then which is an antique, black scabbard with yellow fittings, and it's VERY sharp in a nice convex edge geometry,. I smacked it so hard onto the pillar inside the parking lot on day one to "test the edge" and all I see is a big line on the pillar, no damage to the sword! Wow! That antique is awesome! It's long and heavy, I LOVE the weight! Too bad, it was stolen away by a son-of-a-beetch in 2007, burglars to the temple who were a bunch of con man and triad gangsters hired by my own evil mother to do the job. CRAZY EH!? Now in 2012 they know what they are up to when they attempt break in again. I went back this time.. and they know what a SHARP BLADE is about! LOL!
Truly amazing to see how kungfu really works! If a belle dao can put into action in that kinda situation, it's gonna be even more STYLISH!

OH MY GOD! That's the only Dao with a nice slant termination for the groove that isn't around $1K or more (Hanwei Beile Dao and Swong Sword are the only other two I can find with the slant termination)! I want one! Going to have to save some extra cash here and there...

This Dynasty forge version certainly is very nice for the price, I saw the Huanuo version a while back and it was a DH folded which is even better but the price was 1.5k Just a few more little things and this would be perfect IMO i.e. longer handle, peened assembly, Royal blue or Forest green burl handle and scabbard by Ernie.

I just got mine in today and I am blown away
This thing is awesome and I am surprised these are still in stock at the store here.
Beautiful Hada and come paper cutting sharp. Very well-balanced makes it feel like a feather in your hand.
Dynasty Forge is going to be my go to place for chinese swords (next up is a folded Jian).

I agree! The more I look at it, the more it looks like a bargain! Hopefully its a sign that more Chinese swords will be available for the production market!

Goosequill is an excellent saber for those who have trained in straightsword as the blade is relatively straight enough for the techniques to migrate over.
The dragon jian fittings from Dynasty Forge looks much more historical (although fanciful) than many of the Huanuo fittings. The square ziggarut hilt has appeared on Huanuo gim before.
