Hi everybody.
I am new to this Forum and helmet and armour is a new field of study for me. Over at the Beginners Forum I already posted about the questions I have about the afore mentioned helmet, got 39 hits but no answers, so I repost here in the hope someone will help me to sort out some questions, because I will order this helmet in a couple of days.
On to the questions:
1. Here is the KOA version: www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... rne+Helmet
As you can see the lining of the cheekpieces is rivetted and stitched, which, as far as I can tell, is more in accordance with the original, seen here: www.romancoins.info/MilitaryEqui ... -late.html
As you can see when you scroll down a little, on the right cheekpiece are rivets to hold the lining in place.
2. I think this is the new Deepeeka version: www.armae.com/antiquite/Casques_ ... Deurne.htm
The leather lining is folded and stitched to the cheekpiece and on other parts of the helmet you see the same treatment, here they even use buckles and leather straps to hold the neckpiece and the rows of rivets are missing.
3. What do I have to do to get a better example of this helmet? I think I will have to cut off all the folded and stitched leather to begin with and than copy the rows of rivets like on the original. Point is: I do not know how to work with brass rivets. Should there not be a small contra plate on the inside to hold the rivet and the leather?
4. What would be the right way to attache the neckplate? As far as I can see, the KOA version uses the lining as a sort of hinge, while the new version is fitted with 2 straps and buckles.
I really hope one of you experts can help me make this helmet better and more historicaly correct. Thank you very much, cheers.
