Finally! Getting swords shipped to Australia sucs, but the first sword I have ordered, a gen2 Irish has arrived. Sword looks great, but....
Looks like edge isn't sharpened properly. I can run my hand firmly up and down the edge or grip it firmly with a bare hand. So any suggestions for going about sharpening it up? How sharp should I go for?
I'll post some picks and a review in a couple of weeks providing I get it sharpened up.

Hey Mostly, My G2 Scottish single hander was in the same shipment and I will get it Monday I believe. When did you order yours? You don't want to know when I ordered mine.
You should be able to get it sharp enough running an oiled stone up and down the length of the edge for a while. I like mine very, very sharp, as opposed to stupid sharp.

Months ago... like you i'm sure. It arrived on friday, so I'm sure yours will be there soon as I live in Adelaide. Now I'm really tempted to get one of those angus trim sword that people are bulk ordering as well. Argh.

Try March.
I think that Gus' swords may be easier, if we can get them sent through Paul. However obviously they're not expected to be ready for a while.
I see now that we can buy direct from Kult of Athena and get free post on G2 swords under 42" boxed. That will be the go in future. Limited choice at that size unfortunately.

I owned the Irish Hand and Hand for a while. Mine was very sharp. Where did you get it from?

Bought it from the only guy who sells g2's in Australia. I cant see that its his fault at all, and its clearly a g2, its exactly like the pictures and has the g2 stamp on it. And given postage costs i'm not going to be sending it back, so i'm looking into how to get it properly sharpened.

Mine is not crazy sharp either, and I'm too nervous to attempt to sharpen it all the way. But as far as balance and handling goes, it's the best sword I own!

wow, that is news to me. On two occasions, while I was removing all the plastic that the sword comes wrapped in I nicked my finger on the blade. Tiny cut went deep and I started beeding all over the place.
Were your swords wrapped in layers of plastic wrap. The sword is usualy taped to the scarbard and the blade is greeced up with this transparent lubricant that is then hard to get off your hands.

My sword was wrapped in plastic, yes. perhaps I jst need to do some real tests of the Irish Bastard and see how sharp it really is...
