I don't know about the rest of you folks, but with the new ATrim 1315 single-handers progressing nicely, and me really anticipating their delivery after Gus described them to me in great detail as to the way they handle...it occurred to me how much fun it is when you take a new sword out for the "getting acquainted first date" as it were.
Those first timid steps and cutting a little. How you just can't help holding it in your hand and admiring it. How you just can't hold it still. You have to make little dry cutting motions. Get the feel of the grip. A little bit exhilarating isn't it?![:D](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)
I went through this pleasant experience shortly after the Blade Show 2007 in Atlanta. Gus had one of his swords there and I read about it on *gasp* SFI!![:o](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)
After seeing the pictures I fell in love with this sword. I had to get hold of it somehow. As luck would have it...I have Gus' email address! YES! YES! YES! I promptly emailed an offer and soon...joy of joys...I actually had this wonderful little Oakeshott Type XII in my hands.
I don't know much about the sword. It seems to be a little out of the ordinary for Gus' wares. It has a lenticular cross section and two fullers that travel 2/3 the length of the blade.
Here's a few photos of the sword from different angles:

And here are some closeups of the hilt and fullers from a few different angles:

Anyway, getting back on topic. Does everyone...anyone?...get the same feeling I get with a new sword that you've been craving and you finally get it? You just have to go out and cut stuff with it!
So I shot some video while I was having my "special moments" with this new sword and I figured I would just share. Hope someone likes it. The initial video was about 6 minutes long and 193 mb. So I had to chop out the middle that included all the Swordfodder Master Target cutting, and analyzing the edge alignment of each cut and so forth, and so on, ad nauseum.
What's left is just the "first date jitters" and then a little comfortable interaction later. Enjoy if you like... ;D
