yah so I'm looking to buy my first Battle ready sword and i can't decide between a Katana or Medeival sword. I've decided to get Either The Kaze Katana from Cheness Cutlery, Or the Maximillion sword fron Gen2. They both got such good reviws. I like the Kaze for it's traditional design. I like the Maximillion for its apparent near indestructability (i know it's not really indestructable but it's really strong.) So i was wondering which you guys thought was the better out of the two, and just for the fun of it, which would win in battle. Also, is there a new maximillion with pin construction cause I could not help but notice the silver dot on the hadle here, www.armsofvalour.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AOVL&Product_Code=IP-036&Category_Code=ICIByou might have to copy and paste it.

Personally, I'm all katana'd out. I've got four now, and only two half-decent European-style swords. I'm thinking it's time to even the field a bit, and the Maximilian is one of my top five considerations in this.
On the subject of "which would win," I venture to offer you "the one that hits the other guy first."
The Kaze will likely boast an advantage on the side of a good cutter, that is, the person swinging it, whereas the Maximilian may be more forgiving to a bad whack. With a price difference of $80 US from the manufacturers, shopping around and SBG discount not included, I'd take cheaper first, but then I'm just cheap.
Pin? I don't know, but that little button's had my eye since I saw it, too. Maybe somebody else knows.
Somebody else will probably lend better assistance in comparing the two. I own neither, but have been wanting both, so am in the same boat with you on this. I'm leaning more toward the Maximilian, myself, though.

They're both sooo different! I'm not sure you can really compare them from the perspective of deciding on one to purchase...
I have the Kaze and it's a really nice Katana. The Maximilian looks good, but I've never handled it. I usually lean more towards European swords, but I'd have to go with the Kaze in this case. Although Gen2 swords are very durable, I'm not a huge fan; something about them seems a little artificial if that makes any sense (the Maximilian looks pretty good though)
That's just my opinion. I'm sure others might disagree...

Does Cheness cutlery inspect before they ship their products? I've heard rumors about defects in Paul Chen's swords. I would Hate to buy something then find it's defective. especially since it would be my first and i would have know idea how to identify problems with the tempering or anything related. what website could I order from that inspects their products first? (just in case) I'm very nervous that way.

A drawback to the Max is it doesn't have a woodcore scabbard only a sheath.
Honestly, if you are at all interested in both types of swords, then you will own at least one of each type sooner of later.
Are you sure the rumored defects weren't about Hanwei swords? Both companies are owned by two different people who happen to have the same name: Paul Chen.
I just got a Cheness tenchi through the SBG store and its flawless, not that that proves anything one way of the other. But a nice sword.

Check out this thread /index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=1166459430&page=1 Not sure if they've taken care of them. If you decide to go with the Kaze, You can buy it from the SBG store; Paul Southren is a great guy to deal with. Just make sure to ask about any defects the Katana might have.

I'm glad to hear the "Max" is moving up in the world. Thanks, Clyde. I believe the "dot" on the handle is just a sticker (Made in Philipines, or something like that) that will come right off.

I would go with the Maximillion too. Especialy since you said you are nervous. Gen 2 offers a warrenty and Clyde, the owner, is attive in this forum. We have all wittnessed him do good on his warrenties.

I would go with the maxmillion. It's more durable, and if you are new to swords in general then I would recommend durability over sharpness. (Not to say that the maxmillion isn't sharp quite the opposite in fact!) Even so I; like many of you am in dire need of $200... I need money to buy shiny, pointy objects of happiness! ~Happy sword collecting! Jesse

I have the Kaze and it is a GREAT sword. Cuts like a laser . I don't know much about the Maxmillion, but I will say that the Kaze is worth the money.
