I posted this last year, I just wanted to see if anyone has tryed it............ I was thinking about taking the head from a cold steel boar spear and try useing a cold steel bad axe/special forces shovel handle to make a little tactical sword, i guess a gladius - achilles sword knock off but with a bit more of a hand guard. im thinking it would be cheap and strong any opinions?G

It would definitely work, but when the CS boar spear is stuck on top of that thick shovel handle of a shaft it comes with, it's one heck of a polearm! The short Assegai spear might be already what you're looking for. I have both, and to me the short CS Assegai is basically a tactical short sword on a long handle. That's how they were used by the Zulu who created them.

I know about the Zulu using the assegai basically as a gladius. Just figured the even shorter handle of the shovel would make it even more sword like plus be a nice cheap but tough tactical short sword.

The CS boar spear spearhead is a lot bigger and heavier then the CS Assegai spearhead, and the handle of the CS badaxe/Spetsnaz shovel is a lot thicker than the Assegai shaft, so it would make for one heavy duty tactical short sword! Be aware that these spearheads are pressed from steel sheet, they are solid forged spearheads, but they can take a good edge.
