1.) Doesn't look very norse to me.
2.) That's most definately a cocked hat pommel, not a tea cozy.
That said, I can't see anything after a quick glipse that would tell me the sword is "bad." Really and truly, I wouldn't recommend albion for 'full contact live steel work.'
Maybe someone sees something glaringly obvious, but I don't.

Yeah, I ignored what they said about the pommel... Is there a distinct Norse look or could there be "hybrids"?
It's a cheap sword so if it's truly high carbon, then I can't go wrong, but I'm usually leery of very cheap swords.
I'm not too crazy about the handle though, but I can always do something about that.
Thanks for the input Ramm!

If you buy it, make sure there is some avenue of getting your money back, just in case. Anyways, it "could" be a hybrid, but as it is, the cocked hat pommel is almost universally a german feature. But hey, I could be wrong, it's happened before ![;)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I've seen this guy's stuff on ebay a lot, was thinking of getting one of his seaxs. His swords look cheap to me, but if they are functional (a big if) I suppose there is an outside chance they are worth the money.
Personally, I'm wary, the old adage 'you get what you pay for' wouldn't be such a cliche if it wasn't true most of the time. If you do take the plunge be sure to show us some pics and share your impressions though, but be careful with the thing if you are going to cut with it.
It may also be a good idea to contact him and ask him who makes his swords. I'd be less inclined to buy if he makes a big secret out of it.

I know what you mean Hack, I'm questioning how good the sword is at that price. I've e-mailed the guy a couple of days ago, but haven't heard back yet.... not a good sign... we'll see

To me this sword just looks wrong, there's something lacking in it's proportions not to mention that it's also just plain ugly. Just my opinion, BTW. like you say Sargon, it's the sort of thing you can play about with. The pommel looks small to me though, don't know how you'd get around that. Probably just as well you didn't take the plunge, If I was selling a sword I'd make sure there was a decent photo of the blade for all to see, the fact that this particular blade isn't on show should set alarm bells ringing.

there is a money back guarantee... And they have a high rating. give it a shot?( if nothing else atleast the blade is good.) but you wont know if its carbon or not for sure until you actually look at it yourself i would suppose. good luck ![:D](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

i take back the previous comment. lol... The sword is ugly and kinda looks cheap upon second glance. just reminds me of a sword i had that was "functional" the handle snapped right off due to Blade/handle proportion. just a small steel rod inside wood...... not very functional.

Wow, the seller is in Old Saybrook, Conn. My ancestors founded that town back in the 1600's!!! ![8-)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) But that says nothing of the seller though.... Looks kinda sketchy...

... so if it's truly high carbon, then I can't go wrong... I'm not following that. The plated hilt furniture is not only not authentic, but it would not stand up to any use/abuse. The handle is too large for an authentic Norse sword. The scabbard design is misinformed as well. Can't test the temper and balance from here, but the few things that I can see are waving too many red flags.

Like I said, I have a weakness for curved cross guards ![:D](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) mmmm The handle is ugly, and would have changed that immediately. From the pics, the blade looked ok, but then again, there were no decent clear up-close pics.... don't get me wrong, it's not my ideal sword, but for the price they were listing it at ($40), I would've bought it if were functional in any way. The guy not getting back to me was a good sign it was a piece of crap.

Another viking blade he's selling is the spitting image of the one from Darksword.

I don't have that particular sword, however I did purchase two gladius swords from this outfit. I'm no expert but here is my opinion for what it's worth. The blades appear to be carbon steel tho dull. The pommells screw off and the tang appears adequate, first part is a continuation of the blade which gradually diminishes to a threaded rod. Could be welded a few inches from the end tho he didn't claim these were full tang. The finish is a bit rough on the sword and the scabbard. Still a better scabbard than I got with my Gen2 Pompeii Gladius (Love the Gen2 Pompeii btw). In my opinion they are excactly what he claims sturdy enough for light contact, tho I wouldn't do any serious cutting with them, but worth what I paid and I'd buy them again. They were fun to play with while I watched Rome. Just my two cents.
