Ok so let me give you guys a little info. I've recently been wanting to buy a sword. I thought it would be a simple thing, but the more research I did, the more complicated things got. At first I wanted to buy the lighter two hander DSA swords, like the norman, the knightly bastard sword, the two handed danish, but after reading a lot of boards on here I realized that DSA has some issues with the quality of their blades. A lot of people say they are too heavy, but I they have some light ones. I've also been checking out Hanwei Tinker swords like the bastard with fuller, stats are good, and Hanwei seems like they have good quality blades, but it looks like a two year old with no imagination designed it... plus the thin handle.. i cant get over that.. Next was generation 2, haven't heard much about them, but they are all back ordered on Kult of Athena, and most of their two handers are quite heavy Havent looked into cold steel, they seem like they just make beater swords. So many of the blades have potential to be so good :x I'm hoping you guys can help me find a good two hander European sword, thats under 3 pounds... my upper limit is 500, but I would prefer to spend less than 400

What about a Hanwei/Tinker Longsword or Bastard? Both can be used two-handed and are quite light and nimble.
Hope that helps, Alan

Windlass Erbach. Or the German Bastard Sword. Both lower end for your budget, and they float the way they are balanced. Check the reviews, that should help.

The Erbach can be a little hard to find, but the GBS is a decent piece. 15th Century Longsword is a tad whippy when cutting. Those are good Windlasses. I will second, third, and fourth the Hanwei/Tinkers, especially the bastard. They may be plain but they're awesome.

They are decent blades, a bit on the heavy side... above 3 lbs.. could be a bit unwieldy.. but i might have to consider them Cant find the erbach on kult of athena though..

The tinkers have such think handles... i feel likr if i do drills and swing it back and forth, it wont be easy with such a small handle... sure maybe for one swing its ok.. but for many swings and doing drills, it could pose a problem

A note about the thin handle on the H/T Bastard w/Fuller...I was pretty vocal about it, but once I owned one (had new leather and risers, but the grip core was the same), I loved it. It takes a little getting used to but once you do, it's really really nice. And my hands are fairly large. Not meathooks, but large.
That is also one of only two swords I regret selling. I don't think there is a better sword of that type in that price range. And if the aesthetics bother you, you could always have it customized thanks to the hex-nut design.
Just my two cents.

Is the german bastard sword from windlass not discontinued? i mean, no longer in production? I have the generation hand and half sword black prince and is a tough nimble sword The Hanwei tinker line seem's to get a fine revieuw, and is recommended by many members here i tough. So you could give them a try Perhaps you can try out the GSOW from Hanwei Tinker Or the Hanwei Claymore. Or you might go for the del tin swedish two handed sword, wich is about 490 dollar,or if you wanna have a full package, sword, belt, scabbard, might go check out Sonny from Valiant Armoury.

I own the Hanwei Tinker Fullered Bastard sword, an awesome blade. Light and fast. You can always send it to Ernie at Yeshua's Sword to have a nicer hilt made for it. His prices are very reasonable, and his work is nothing short of stellar.

Razor had/has a very light feeling sword that had a handle long enough for me to use two hands. I think it was on the more expensive side, though. I don't remember what it was called, though. I'm sure some of the older members who know his collection and about European swords better might know. If I remember, I'll post again.

It was probably either his Hanwei Tinker Longsword, or his Atrim 1520.

Probably the Atrim, then. I know for sure it wasn't an Hanwei Tinker, because when I was holding it at the meet back in August at Dirty Dan's, I asked "this is a Hanwei Tinker?" and got an answer from someone (it wasn't Razor) along the lines of "Oh-ho, that's higher up than an H/T." I don't know what Atrim is on the pecking order, though.

Definately higher than the H/T line, but availability is nill at the moment. To the OP, the H/T Bastard would get my vote, with a custom hilt by Ernie. Should still fall within your budget.

A possibility at the least. You can PM him here on the forum with any questions you have, his username is ErnieR. He's in Washington state, right near the border.

I have not checked Kult of Athena for the Erbach, or German Bastard, but I had one of each in hand Monday when I was in the MRL store in Atlanta. Just saying... And don't forget the SBG coupon if you call them. Edit: One other thought. Check the Hanwei deal of the week thread, I think this week there is a AWESOME deal on 2 GSOW if you get them from a dealer. Get a friend and go in on two.... Thread is here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13767And 2 GSOW for 310.00. My wife will kill me if I get another sword soon...

The work was done by Sonny Suttles of Valiant Armory. Here is the sword as I received it:

Go look on the SBG store, there is an online 10% discount coupon for MRL. I hope this helps.... Edit: Here's the link, it took me a few minutes to find it. www.sword-buyers-guide.com/discount-swords.htmlPlus it has a few deals from other vendors.
