Hey guys, so i was looking for a good quality knife/dagger. I purchased a Smith and Wesson HRT (below) I purchased it as it was only $15. The only problem is of course the quality is very poor. It really feels like the blade would snap if it hit something even remotely hard. It has a thin profile but it has too much flex for my liking. Any recommendations for a better quality knife for around $100 more or less?

You could look into the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife. You can find them for about $30-$40. I've seen both Boker and Linder. There is also the Applegate Boot Knife by Boker. Those run about $115. The full sized edition runs about $125. The Boker M3 Trench Knife is also really sweet. That goes for about $60. Those are all in US dollars, though.

The Boker Daggers suggested by my forum mates could do the job. There's also the Cold Steel Tac 1 - 11 daggers, like this one ; www2.knifecenter.com/item/CS10BC ... on-Handles Ontario Knives also has a Spec Plus 2 knives that has a short, double-edged blade that might suit you ... but I can't find that model's trace on the net ... You could also have a look a Condor's Boar Dagger ; www2.knifecenter.com/item/CN2458 ... her-Sheath

MY Personal Opinion- Not to bash S&W knives or your purchase, i've purchased a few over the years they were well.... would be fine for cutting rope  I Like their pistols lets leave it at that. I own a few Boker's & Kershaws they are good but Sog & cold steel rise to the cream of the crop in my pinion for your price range My suggestion it all depends on what purpose you are going to use it for, whether outdoor- camping - Tactical, - conceal- everyday carry use. Everyone has their favorite manufactor. Over the yrs in the Army & out , I have used & stand by SOG, or Cold Steel, tacticals & folders. SOG is my favorite out of what i own. a Seal pup its an Over-all whatever you need in the field so-to-speak, strong durable, wont let you down. Links are from website. Don't order from their wesites you can get them almost half the cost at times from most sporting goods-hunting stores, Ebay, Amazon. Just gotta weed through your searches.I only posted the links to their sites for your judgement reading. I paid $74 for my pup( newer elite verisons out now) $47. for the Aegis on ebay. $60 for the pentagon Seal pup - field tactical my overall favorite has taken alot of hard abuse over the years and it will out live me im sure : sogknives.com/store/M37.html everyday pocket carry i use a SOG Aegis Mini Tanto folder: good locking mechanism, saftey slide, assisted opening, very sleek, comfortable in your pocket with the clip( right or left handers) sogknives.com/store/AE-24.htmlSog Pentagon : conceal carry although a little bigger than average Super Gripping: sogknives.com/store/S14.htmlCold Steel well known and supported by alot of military I own 2 Kobun- Light-weight boot- conceal: paid $35 Outdoorsman shop coldsteel.com/Product/17T/KOBUN.aspxMaster hunter Plus- outdoors use for game: paid $50. new- Ebay coldsteel.com/Product/36G/MASTER ... _PLUS.aspx Hope i gave you some ideas

Thanks for the quick reply's guys! Purpose: For my BOB bag, i have a good overall knife that will do all the hard work. I dont have anything for a stabbing purpose, killing game quickly and defense if needed. I want it to be small and fixed blade. Few good options there, i like the SOG's but dont want serrations. How would u guys rate these? www.crkt.com/AG-Russell-Sting-One-piece-Hot-Forged-Double-Razor-Sharp-Edge

What about the Ka-Bar MK1 Navy knife in black? www.amazon.com/Ka-Bar-Kraton-Han ... =Kabar+mk1 I have this and it's a great knife. Not a big knife, the handle fills the hand well, the handle material is very grippy, and it's FFG so it will slice very efficiently. Also not a bad price at 50 shipped.

The OSS Subhilt is a good knife, particularly for the money. The grip is plyable and let's you get a very secure grip. The only drawback is the sheath it comes with. It's not fairly bulky and not easily concealable. It's extremely durable and adaptable if worn on the outside of your clothes but not designed for concealability.
If you want it concealable, you'll want to make or get a leather sheath for it.

I really like the OSS too. Redwd707 let me handle his, and I was pretty surprised. It looks like it would be heavy, but it's incredibly light. It's on top of my (very long)short list of knives to buy.

I have a Cold Steel OSS, it is one helluva knife. I have to say, it is definitely a fighting blade. The two, extra sharp edge are definitely not made to cut wood or do any kind of utilitary work. Here's a review I wrote, ages ago, on the old forum ; sbgswordforum.proboards.com/inde ... read=17145
