hehehe you were too slow! I was already watching the Showdown! I am taking some of my OT $$$ and putting it towards my Katana collection. T Right now I only want 3 Katanas. I have purchased my first 2. A Musashi that will be my cutter (should I take it up), and my recently acquired Hawk Tsuba folded 1060 that is more ornate. Although a cutter, I want it for show and some minor handling. Also, I wish to do Wudang Tai Chi and (after I master the forms) have a sword that can be what I consider 'my soul', (The sword is the soul of the Samurai) something that represents me. Although it does not need to be a cutter, I still want it to be a real sword and not just a wall hanger. My Dr recommended Tai Chi to help with my joints and flexibility, I prefer it with the sword. There is also bi-weekly Tai Chi on the beach by me, but it is too late in the morning as I am already on my way to work. Too bad as I drive right by it when I leave in the AM before they start. Right down the road from me by the Norfolk waterfront I found out that Open Wudang Wuxue starts mid November each Saturday at the Norfolk Pagoda & Oriental Gardens. 3 hours for $20. Going to check it out when it starts on the 17th. I will miss the next 2 weekends as I will be in Germany on business at an Army base there.

I started Wudang Tai Chi recently, both because of health reasons, and because right now there is no Iai or Batto sensei in my whole country :/ Still learning form, and Wudang also teaches self-defense applications, so I am a long ways off from dao (saber) and jian (sword).
Still, from everything I have read, and the answers to the questions I have asked, I would suggest (and please, if others know better, correct me. I have no ego to rub the wrong way on this):
1. Jin-shi. From what I have been told, the best you can get without spending too much. I am waiting for a martial arts jian due to come out at the end of this year or beginning of next. They also have an oxtail dao in the works that will deserve close scrutiny. 2. Huanuo. The three main flavors are sold by Seven Stars Trading Company, Dynasty Forge, and Cold Steel Swords. Each company has slightly different swords, so there is enough variety to find something one likes. 3. The Hanwei Cutting Jian. It was designed by sifu Scott Rodell, and has good reviews.
My personal favorite? The green skinray-wrapped Tang Dinasty jian by Jin-Shi. My second choice would be the swords sold by Dynasty Forge. But those are merely opinions of one who is thoroughly uninformed. Others will have, I am sure, much better informed choices.
