Hi all, I'm a lurker now member looking to buy my first sword. I've done a bit of homework and browsed all the websites suggested on the main page. I'm trying to decide between these, or if there's something better within the same price range (under $350). I like this Gladiator - Maximus sword but it says it comes with a blunt edge and I can have it sharpened. I'm not sure of how the quality will be though. kultofathena.com/product.asp?ite ... al+Maximus I also really like this Alexander the Great Kopis, but it's stainless steel instead of high carbon, so I'm also not sure of the quality. Is there a carbon version of this, or any sword representing Alexander the Great out there? kultofathena.com/product.asp?ite ... Head+Kopis The last type of sword I'm interested in is a FOLDED Katana. I really like the way the folded blades look. I know that by modern standards, it's mostly aesthetic, but to me it's a must. I was considering this one, but maybe there's something better out there? www.trueswords.com/musashi-folde ... -6094.html I do like the medieval style swords as well, but I have NO idea where to begin with those. These pieces will probably just be displayed, but I may want to go out in the yard and slice a bottle in half just for fun.

I had that folded katana, it's a very nice blade. Musashi lower end bamboo warrior series will also make a nice blade. As for the Alexander Kopis, did you try checking MRL? The Gladiator sword that's there was actually just on same this weekend on MRL official website for 99 www.museumreplicas.com/p-1836-arena-sword.aspx.

Kingrikoraru nailed most of the points pretty well. With regards to the Maximus spatha, it looks nice, but is ultimately little more than a wallhanger thanks to its specs; or at least, that's what I took away from Dave Kelley's review of the sword.

Alright, out of those three I think I've decided on the katana from Musashi. Seems like they have a few options on their own webstore, and there's a discount for forum members! I'm still debating about maybe a Dark Ages/Medieval sword from Darkswords.. I have another question, and hopefully it's not a terrible one. I'm wondering if there are still any swordsmiths that will do custom work, preferably in New Jersey (so I can take a look at what they're doing). I'd like to have these two swords made. They're identical, save the color. I don't know if it's even possible to make these.

Check out Jeffrey Robinson's available page as there are some fantasy swords near the bottom there that are somewhat similar to the ones in your picture.
Brendan at Fable Blades is one of the best for custom fantasy swords and I am sure he can do those or make a functional version.

Yes, Fable blade would be your best bet, but that won't be cheap, especially getting 2 swords made. BTW, those looks really familiar, where did you get the idea/image from? I swore I've seen those 2 blades somewhere before

They're from the anime Fate Stay Night used by the archer character. It seems like it's going to be expensive to have these made no matter how I look at it.

Oh yeaaa that's why. But fable blade is pretty much your only option, and unless you get a discount for them being a set, I see that it's going to be expensive. Looks nice, I would want a pair, they're almost like chinese butterfly swords
