Actually I think it looks like a British 1907 pattern bayonet, the markings would indicate made in 1942. I'll have a look for someplace to link to, but I think the handle and scabbard match the british style...

That's what I suspected when I first saw the picture, it definitely looks like a Pattern 1907 Bayonet that was used with the Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) rifle. The SMLE was in service until 1943, so I'm guessing that it's totally feasible for the bayonet to be made in the second last year of the rifle's production period. Here's a picture, looks the same as the one posted in my opinion:

I'm no expert, but I own one of these with very similar markings, and it was sold to me as a 1907 Wilkinson bayonet. Mine's stamped '41 and has a few smaller stamps that I don't see on yours, but it also looks like yours has been sanded down at some time, which may have removed them. Sorry, don't have a working camera right now or I'd show you a pic of mine, but it's definitely the same model bayonet.
