I bought a cheap Musashi a month or so ago, and decided I wanted to go for something fancy for my 2nd sword, yet still be functional. On eBay I saw this Folded Steel with Brass Hawk Tsuba. it was offered by swordmaker688. It took 11 days to receive it from China (He shipped it within 2 days of my payment, even with my custom requests!).
I paid $145 delivered.
You can see the folded layers, much like Damascus, but more subtle. The blade was made of folded steel. AISI 1060 High Carbon Steel folded 10 times.
I had a few changes made to the order, one was getting a darker brown Sageo vs a sand/ goldish color. I am kind of kicking myself for not getting the lighter color though. I think it brings out the lighter colors in the Tsuba. Oh well. I also got a brown Saya, it has metallic flecks in it. I also got it engraved with the Japanese symbols for "Life".
Here are some photos I just took a few minutes ago.
It came pretty sharp out of the box, I did run it through my ceramic sharpener too, and was slicing paper real easy. I also cut a water bottle. On another cut, I went low and actually sliced part of the bottom of a 35 gallon outdoor garbage pail right off.. totally clean cut too! I might post a photo of that cut tomorrow.
I am a collector of guns, and I think I have been bitten by the sword collecting bug! I love the shapes, the meaning, the feel, the smell....
