You might want to PM Elheru Aran here on the forums. He had one with a cracked handle so he may have gotten a look at it.

I do have it, I actually knocked off the grip a while ago. I'll take a quick photo of it maybe today. The one on mine was pretty short, only like 3"... probably a good part of the reason mine felt so weight-forward.

I apologize it took me so long to get back to you... I've had a lot on my hands lately. Anyway, here: As you can see it's right at three and a half inches long from end to shoulders. You can also see a fairly clear "COLD __EEL" stamp on the tang, further proof if any was needed that the same blade is used on the Cold Steel scimitar.

Judging by the position of the pins, it looks like the tang is about as long as the hilt allows.

Said hilt being rather short for my gorilla paws Seriously, I really don't see why they couldn't have extended the hilt just a bit or done a full-tang grip with slabs rather than this setup. Both solutions would've improved the balance. Of course, the one I had probably was never going to have that great of a balance in the first place, I'm pretty certain by now that I have a lemon... ah well. I have Martian longsword plans for this one, so we'll see

The USMC mameluke's have tangs like that, but they mount them in one-piece brass hilts with "ivory" grip scales on each side.

Gorillas don't have paws. And I mostly meant that for what it is, that tang looks pretty decent. Actually, if anyone knows a EU seller that carries this sword, let me know. Probably because they were going for a historical look first hand, handling second. Still, I can't imagine a 9" POB on a sword weighing half a kilo would ever bother me much.

It's an older thread... but it was never updated as sold. Perhaps the user still has it? Cold Steel Shamshir UK

Thanks. Though, I actually rather prefer the Windlass version.

Hi. Try Empire Costume mameluk sabre. As far as I can tell the best on the market, nothing Weaponedge, Windlass or Coldsteel on this one, so better temper + the blade is historically correct. Mr Empire is very fanatical about that! He even gets Weaponedge to have their fittings made to his specks. For the run of the mill Weaponedge/Windlass/Universalswords scimitar you could have a look at Armae.com. Note that there is a slight difference in length of the guard finials of said scimitars. Also you could search at Google.de. There are a lot of swordsites in Germany and some have very attractive prices a la KOA. But, for the price and what you get I think EmpireCostume would be my port of call so to say. Hope this helps, cheers, Ulahn.

OK... Anybody ever order one of this? en.empirecostume.com/mamelouk-st ... -a1323.htm Looks pretty decent ; I would like to know if this is really functional and would have all the right properties (distal taper, etc)... Is it sharpened or not? Can't really tell from the web site... but it does looks good!

Looks very similar to the one Anders got except for having a bit of a yelman and a clip-point.
Most Empire Costume/WeaponEdge/Universal Weapons etc. swords are functional in the sense that they're (generally) full tang and correctly assembled with heat-treated blades; however, they're mainly made to look good. Handling is definitely VERY much a secondary concern.

That's the exact same hilt as on the Weapon Edge India mameluke. I'd bet my bottom dollar bill, if we used dollars around here. The blade... yeah, I don't like it. Unattractive curve, ugly yelman and I hate clipped points. Edit: Actually, looking at their other swords, I now suspect it's a modified version of the Marine De La Garde blade that they stuck the mameluke hilt on.

I too have the MRL Shamshir/Scimitar and I love it but like one of y'all said, I do wish the tang/handle was about an inch longer for my big hands! Freebooter
