I just recently joined the forum, and figured it would be a good idea to introduce myself. My name is Victor and I started collecting swords in the mid-90's, in my early teens. We used to get a catalog of various things in the mail, and they always had a section dedicated to swords, and I used to go through it over and over, and eventually saved up the 250 dollars to order my first sword, The 'Dragon Katana II'. I have no idea who manufactured it (or who manufactured most of my swords, for that matter.) At the time I didnt know it was the second in a series of katanas, I learned that much later. www.weaponmasters.com/shopping/I ... 16610.html That is a very similar sword. The Tsuka is the same, but the Sageo and the Koijiri are different. Knowing what I know now, I dont know how that sword still exists, because I put it through hell that would destroy most carbon steel swords, let alone one that is 440 stainless with a wire brushed hamon. I've since acquired enough swords to supply an entire platoon, although not all are functional. I have several of those stainless steel katanas with the wire brushed hamon in a generic triangular pattern, none of which I would have bought knowing what I know today, but they were all part of my learning process, and I dont regret buying them. I also have a claymore, an irish longsword, various fantasy wall hangers (which I knew were wall hangers, but I liked them enough to buy them anyway ), videogame replicas, other unusual pieces, and several higher end swords, including that claymore. my first differentially hardened blade was the Paul Chen 'Miyamoto Musashi Daito' Which is a minimalist design compared to most katanas available today, and despite buying it while I was still in high school, its still the centerpiece of my collection, although that might be rivaled by the SBG Torakami that I ordered and have waiting for me when I head back home. (I'm currently attending school out of state and my collection is with relatives, as I couldnt bring everything with me.) As my collection grew and I gained an understanding of what a quality sword was, I became very picky about what I will spend my money on, and I am glad to have found SBG.com and this forum, as it is an excellent resource for finding quality blades that wont break the bank, and its also nice to see a whole community that shares my interest in swords. I'm looking forward to being a member of this community.
